Ring My Bells

Eight days after I listened to this song, my mother came and asked me to play it again. Two days after that, she said to me that she had heard a wonderful song a long time ago. It was clear to me that the time had come when she would see everything only through fog. It was this song: https://youtu.be/izsjRpcgfmk. The Empire of Angels had impressed her so much that she had decided for herself to go there. Then, a year and six months later, she had arrived. She must be happy there. 

I don't quite reach the quality of a master, but one evening she knocked quietly on my door and asked what I was going to do. Rattling keys she would hear. I told her that I was trying to create my own interpretation of that very song. She sat down next to it, listened........and said, "Thank you!"

Those were the last words I heard from her. Before she flowed over into the realm of the angels. This, my interpretation, lies since then fallow on a data medium. Now again. Here on this, a server somewhere in the world. Slightly edited I now release this song to the realm of the angels, that she may hear it...

This song was written in the summer of 2013. I've chosen to upload a version of it that ends abruptly because the original has a synth solo towards the end with too many high frequencies and i don't have access to the original sound files anymore to change it. If anyone has any tips on how to remove high frequencies while still keeping the sound somewhat intact i would love to hear them. If that can be done i will upload the original. Thanks.

This piece moves gently, carrying a subtle sadness, but never sinking into despair. Its mood feels like quiet reflection — tinged with melancholy but also with warmth and dignity.
The music opens with a French horn solo, soft and resonant, its tone suggesting both distance and intimacy, like a voice calling from memory. The horn’s melodic line is simple yet noble, setting the reflective character of the work.
As the clarinet enters, it answers the horn in a lighter, more lyrical voice, bringing a hint of comfort and movement. The bassoon follows with a deeper, more grounded timbre, adding weight and gentle sorrow to the texture. Underneath, the cello provides sustained tones and subtle, pulsing rhythms — not heavy, but steady, anchoring the ensemble.
Through the middle section, the four instruments weave together in a chamber-like conversation: the horn’s phrases stretching long and noble, the clarinet offering sigh-like responses, the bassoon coloring the harmony with a touch of gravity, and the cello carrying a quiet undercurrent of resilience.
The piece gradually thins out near the close, leaving the French horn once again in solitude. The final horn solo mirrors the opening, but softer, as if the memory has faded — not with sorrow, but with acceptance.
The overall impression is of a slightly sad but tender piece, evoking reflection, farewell, or the quiet turning of a page.

I've been songwriting and composing since 1967 as an amateur in the positive sense of the term, composing on any tune that comes along in my head, a few times using clairaudience as a compositional aid.
Cockos and Spitfire have been an immense help in putting together the colors of my vision for each tune.
I was introduced to SoundCloud by a local historian's daughter who has since graduated to Spotify.
