We welcome back the Panamanian Palka for his 2nd outing on Earthly Measures - Panamá Libre is a rich and flavourful combination of an array of electronic genres with organic/acoustic instrumentals. An international melting pot : the EP combines African and Latin instruments with Indian and Japanese vocals from Anisha Pillay and mimismooth. It offers a multicultural deep downtempo atmosphere, from World Breaks to Afro Vibes and deep Folktronica.

As the title suggests, the french producer will take you deep in the abyss, through mixtures of dub & dubstep, ambient, techno, downtempo, with a millimetered sound design taking the shapes of rare and obscure deep water creatures. Swim with us in these dark foggy streams and underwater pits filled with psychedelic audio artefacts and sonic anglerfish, meet the Blobfish and the Hydrolagus, listen to the Kalevala legend while smoking some Noematic Buds. In New Dance Energy, Peter Power offers us rich soundscapes that blossom with pulsating grooves, deep meditative vocals, playful flutes, and glitched out beats. His global sound is immersed in a growing sensitivity of presence, where cultivating a deep awareness with one's surroundings is at the heart of the process. Finding perpetual inspiration in organic motion and the alchemical forces of nature. 

After taking a much needed hiatus from the dance floor, taking the time and space to delve into slow living, deep listening, fatherhood and the simple joy of playing instruments. New Dance Energy marks something of a return, with Peter’s first dance orientated release in 5 years.

Reveling in the diverse freedom of conscious dance forms such as ecstatic, meditative & cacao dance ceremonies. 
Dancing for the joy of dancing, and finding new ways to move the body. 

On this release, Peter sways away from habitual four to the floor archetypes. Taking inspiration in lower chakra liberating, body shaking Afro-Brazilian & Dancehall rhythms. Playfully contrasting with soft and wholesome tones, uplifting mantras and traditional flute playing. 
With the intention to bridge the hard hitting modern urban sound with the gentle, holistic and folkloric realms. A striking departure from his usual drawn out, slow burning, meditative style… Exploring short and direct composition , with the average track length on the album teetering in around 4mins. Seven bite sized beauties to sink your teeth into. 

20 % of all royalties will go towards Projeto Sapucaia. 
A regenerative agro-reforestation project in the valley of Raposa, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil. A community initiative that Peter is involved in since 2016. The money collected will go towards maintenance of the agro-forest, to the recently established cultural centre and to the continual reforestation of new areas of the land. Revitalising the conditions for it to flourish how it once was as part of the Mata-Atlantica rainforest.

Marewrew (pronounced: Ma-leoo-leoo / mɑleːu̯leːu̯) is a female vocal group that sings traditional Ainu songs. The music of the long-suppressed people from northern Japan has been a particular focus of Pingipung's output in recent years, together with Oki Kano who recorded and produced many Ainu artists. Following various re-releases by Umeko Ando, the late grande dame of traditional Ainu music, the spotlight is now on the a cappella music of Marewrew, which by the way means ‘butterfly’ in Ainu. Attentive listeners will recognise the voices, as some of the band have already performed as backing singers on recordings by Umeko Ando. Their a cappella versions of traditional Ainu music shed a whole new light on the fascinating songs that have been passed down through generations exclusively through song.

'Ukouk' means 'round singing', which refers to the form in which Marewrew perform and record. Many of the songs are set as tightly interwoven canons: one starts, the others join in, but slightly out of phase: Almost like dub echoes, except that they are sung and not created in post-production. The short songs sometimes unfold into a wondrous trance ('Sikata Kuykuy', 'Honkaya') that seems to spin round and round - if singing can actually dance, then this is how. Nature sounds and woodpeckers can be heard ('Hawsa’), and there is a funny miniature in which the ladies imitate birdsong ('Takuro'). Things get hypnotic with an evocative song about stranded whales ('Hunpe Yan Na’) or an ode to the Orca as ‘Little Sea God’ (‘Pon Repun Kamuy’). The album culminates in unexpected pop ('Yaykatekara') or cumbia moments ('Kanerenren') with a band line-up including percussions and Oki Kano on the famous Tonkori harp.

Marewrew are Rekpo, Hisae and Mayunkiki. Rim-Rim was a member of the group until 2022. Mayunkiki reflects on the ambivalence of performing traditional music as a contemporary band: "When we first started performing, we all thought we had to perform in an Ainu way. But over time we have become more and more open to new ways of singing. I think if our way of singing is seen as the only, correct way of our tradition, then it won't spread, it's not alive. We like it when it's traditional, but it changes, just like our voices have changed over time.” ( Quote from the film 'Marewrew's Voice' by Eiko Soga (2021))

'Ukouk' is a selection of Marewrew's work from the last 13 years, compiled from CD releases by Pingipung's Andi Otto. Oki Kano has contributed unreleased material and added new versions of the songs which had only been released in Japan. The album has been remastered by Kassian Troyer and is now available on LP for the first time.
