Hollywood Strings Test

I didn't write this piece with a plan in mind.  When I was about a minute into it, I realized it sounded like something you might hear during the title sequence of a dark (possibly horror or mystery) film, so that's the direction I took for the rest of it.  Enjoy!

Dark Mystery:  Title Sequence

Merry Christmas! This is an orchestration of Grant Kirkhope's "Freezeasy Peak Theme" from the N64 game Banjo Kazooie.  Banjo was one of my favorite video games as a kid, and that was partly because of Grant's quirky and memorable themes.  I thought that orchestrating this theme would be a good way to get myself more familiar with cubase and the East West VSTs that I own.  Enjoy!

Electric Ramble

This is an alternate soundtrack I wrote for Disney Animation Studio's "Paperman" short.  I thought the short needed a more classical approach, considering the art style that the animators chose.  It's definitely a little Gershwin -inspired, I'm going to deny that!  I'll be putting the entire video on YouTube shortly, and I'll post the link here.  Enjoy!

The Woods

This track begins with a reflective trumpet solo.  After other brass instruments continue the opening statement, the strings play a bittersweet melody that musters memories of the past.  

To help me while writing this piece, I had an imaginary scene from a movie in mind.  In the scene, members of a family are gathered around the grave of a veteran grandfather who had recently passed away, thinking back on his life and bravery.

For this track, I envisioned a "Treasure Island"-like scene.  A boy steps onto a ship and is both hesitant and optimistic about the journey ahead.  As the sails unfurl and the ship heads into the horizon, an adventure has begun.
