London-based DJ and producer Archie Hamilton has dropped new EP ‘R:Evolution’, the milestone 50th release on his Moscow Records label, out 30th July.

A three-track release, ‘R:Evolution’ opens with the slick, grooving bassline of ‘Moonshine’ as Archie quickly taps into his signature sound. Next up, ‘Hi Jinx’ is a darker, more energetic affair, punctuated by a hypnotic acid bassline and mutated vocal fragments. Closing things out, ‘Our Time’ combines driving rhythms and enchanting melodies with the fluttering vocals of Bristol singer-songwriter Molly Green.

It follows the recent NFT drop around the EP. With 16 different NFTs up for grabs across three tiers, the NFTs included guestlist spots for Archie’s club shows, bespoke animations, a one off dubplate of the EP and more.

Prior to that Archie released two-track EP ‘Journey To Juno’, while last year he made his BBC Radio 1 ‘Essential Mix’ debut and released 10 Years Of Moscow, a compilation LP celebrating the ten-year anniversary of Moscow Records.

Looking ahead, Archie has an abundance of exciting post-lockdown tour dates to look forward to, including the reopening weekend of London’s iconic fabric on 25th July. He will also play at the coveted Mint Warehouse on 18th July, an Elrow Town event in Amsterdam on 4th September, Warehouse Project Opening on 2nd October, Amnesia in Ibiza on 12th October as well as Epizode Festival in Vietnam on 7th January to name but a few.

Founded back in 2009 as a place to release “music from friends, with an onus on quality over quantity”, Moscow Records has since overseen releases from the likes of Toman, Chris Stussy, Charlie Banks and of course Archie himself.

A landmark release, ‘R:Evolution’ is an exploration into the sound around which Archie Hamilton has built his esteemed reputation.

With tracks played by the likes of Raresh, SIT, and FUSE boss Enzo Siragusa, Manchester-based talent Nolga is definitely on an upwards curve. Known to many within the city, heading up his own events series Complex Future, the DJ/producer has been steadily making a name with original material on Aesthetic and One Records while collaborating with Michael James on iO Mulen’s Hoarder. Following on from his contribution ‘Ace Of Space’ to the label’s second VA instalment LOCUS TRAXX, the bubbling talent returns to LOCUS for his first full release on the imprint as he draws for a quartet of dynamic cuts across his ‘Mistaken Identity’ EP.

Title track ‘Mistaken Identity’ opens the package via a series of tight, crisp grooves, fluttering synths and a wiggly bassline to set the tone from the off, while ‘Revolution’ brings the most stripped-back track on the package, introducing a percussive workout armed with punchy kicks. Next, ‘Electric Sunrise’ offers up neon lead lines across a slick, shuffling cut, before ‘Amber Gambler’ closes the show with a fiesta of slick drums, hazy sweeping melodies and vibrant electronics.

PREMIERE: Nolga - Mistaken Identity

Hi! This is my first track in this genre. I created it in Ableton Live 12 Lite. I tried to make the most out of the 8 available tracks to achieve a sound that I really like, and it was a very interesting experience. I’m increasingly drawn to this style and hope to release more music in a vinyl-inspired aesthetic in the future.

To those who came to me after my first two tracks, I apologize and hope you understand this change in style. I didn’t feel truly happy while making those tracks. In this music, I’m more involved as a musician, and it brings me joy, despite the melancholic sound.

I’d really appreciate your support. I’m also raising funds for the full version of Ableton, as I know it would allow me to unlock more potential. But for now, this is what we have. Thank you for your attention!

Loco Dice starts a new mini-chapter in the history of his Desolat label with 11 track compilation album Serán Bendecidos.
Literally translated as ‘will be blessed’, Serán Bendecidos, “brings a message of unity and freedom” and gathers artists that include Dice’s companions from the past and the present, international guests as well as new and exciting talents. Serán Bendecidos is founded on a desire to connect the Dice’s worldwide musical family, and will include events around the world, lunching with a US tour which kicks off in Detroit on the day of release.
It is the boss himself who kicks things off with the brilliant ‘2Thousand3’, a tribal house cut with bristling drums and rolling percussive energy. Spanish hit maker Cuartero then offers ‘Attention’, a deep space electronic house track with swirling, nebulous pads and slick drum work, and after a storming Desolat debut earlier this year, UK artist wAFF returns with ‘Dripping’, a big, raw and barreling cut with digital sound design and freaky vocal stabs.
Andrea Oliva turbocharges things with his giant kick drums and pinging cowbells on ‘Bases,’ and Francisco Allendes’s ‘A Game of You’ is a ducking and diving house number with well swung kicks and subtle synths. Long time label associate Yaga lands a rolling and direct jam
called ‘Evolver’. The pressing toms and the rolling low-end bassline push the track to the heat while the syncopated hi-hat adds even more tension.
Dutchman William Djoko, who featured on the last Loco Dice album, offers ‘Tell Me How You Like It,’ which in his words is “an open invitation to have a fun and freaky night with no strings attached”, all embodied in a punchy, stripped back house track. Next is Belgian artist Mandana,
a debutant who makes a big splash with a track that stems from a live jam. ‘Conflict’ is rhythmically inventive and effective dub house that insists you move.
After that is Puerto Rico’s Caleb Calloway with ‘Rollin Pin,’ which he “wanted to be played at the peak of the party”. It features his own Spanish vocal and rolling acid basslines, big dirty kicks and strident 303 drums. Cuky’s ‘Born Dancing’ brings more blasted bass and sleazy feelings all wrapped up in a perfect package. Finally, we have Guti, another producer who has long been associated with the label and here rounds things out with ‘Amanda 101’, a track that will blow up the floor with its urgent hi hats, muffled party vocals and rugged bass.
This is an essential collection of house and techno from some of the day’s finest talents
