Last night I dreamt of a hotel room by the ocean, saltwater was coming in beneath the windows. Did you know that most cells in the human body replace themselves every 7 to 10 years? This idea is in fact somehow inaccurate, even though beautiful in its own naive, poetical ingenuity. I've pinpointed my oldest olfactory memory down to saline skin and the scent of nasturtiums in a midsummer heatwave.

I suppose one day, this key of mine will be in use.
When the roots of the trees have grown over the ruins, of what used to be my city.

My dream of peaceful days are as sweet as persimmons.
My memory of Omas voice as vivid as the violets, she used to murmur quietly -
No man is free until the we accept kindness, until then we shall be wise and clever and more quiet than the mice, do take my word for it. I’ll save you the trouble and give some peace of mind.

Crying feels as bitter as holding sumac above my eyes,
I try my best to understand that emptiness is what welcomes me, but that does not feel right.
But I still believe that this old key of mine, will kiss a familiar door, at least one last time.

Nathan Germain aka Sprælle ([Sprah-lé], he/him) is a 24-yo French musician, producer, and DJ based between Montreal, Canada, and NY City, US. His work collects stimuli from multiple musical and cultural references such as contemporary laptop electronics, ambient and experimental music, as well as mainstream pop and videogame soundtracks. These, in particular, had a role in inspiring his debut EP called CRUSH UP, appeared early last year on the Spanish label xenonyms, which enacted a lively confrontation between lo-fi components and sharp sonic bursts on the foreground of energetic and eventful progressions.

Other than releasing several single tracks from 2019 onward, Sprælle already appeared twice on the Montreal-based platform Audio Bambino, with the tracks Aïsha and Gravel on this 2nd and 7th compilations respectively. Also, the artist hosts monthly residencies on Montreal’s N10.AS and Tunis’ Ma3azef radios, called Bleed In The Underground and Rearranged Existence. On this occasion, we're happy to present you with a one-track single written and produced by Sprælle, a 20-minutes mammoth composition called Ropes To Eternity Lead Nowhere which has been reportedly designed to take the listener through multifaceted sceneries of abstract realities.

Engaging on the challenge of blurring the boundaries between genres via different compositional solutions and production techniques such as time-stretching, field recording manipulation, and digital saturation, just to name a few, Ropes To Eternity Lead Nowhere is a challenging, free-form yet well-conducted journey into Sprælle’s take on electronic music, delicate and impassioned at the same time. In the track, a mutable collage of sound and rhythmical components is patched together around a central theme of wonder and discovery, which is declined in distensive moments of relaxation, tense passages of agitation, and abrasive, emotional junctures. All the drives behind Sprælle’s creation process converge into an organic tale of an ever-changing life creature arising from a pond of scattered materials and manifesting itself in its diverse, unseizable shapes, until the final abrupt conclusion. Debuting on Eastern Nurseries with “It Had Nothing To Do With Summer”, Helsinki-based producer Softie quietly hides his club wristband under see-through silk, engulfing himself in a heartwarming world of swirling textures, lovelorn melancholy and glassy harmonics.

First introduced via World Canvas earlier this year with his debut EP “Clouded Vision”, Softie builds on this framework of isolationist ambient works and icy techno ruminations with a sophomore release that offers a resounding statement of voice and vision, shining a light on his beloved scene’s emotive undertones.

“It Had Nothing To Do With Summer” overflows with a sense of fleeting ecstasy - gone but not forgotten - as hazy melodies bleed through cold swathes of shifting noise. Enshrined in a halo of optimism, Softie’s first full length album embodies post-rave ambivalence to life’s troubles - a sacrosanct moment of bliss tinged with the bittersweet realisation that reality comes at dawn.

Softie - Pond Eyes

Active since 2006 with multiple projects, evolved in countless DIY or festival performances & putting out a handful of hardline releases, on their latest project 'Kleis' out in May via Gin&Platonic, the Saint-Etienne based musician and respected performer Amédée De Murcia alias 'Somaticae' examines the disturbing concept of dichotomy, fundamentally shaping the world around us.

Being a follow-up to his noise, electronica and techno-oriented past releases via Brainstorm Lab, Lost Dogs ent. or In Paradisum, Kleis (meaning key in ancient greek) offers two iterations (the third is a cassette-only bonus) of an epic and raw, yet genuinely fluid sonic riddle. Composed and recorded during 2020 in Lyon, Kleis is a rebus encrypted with grubby drums, entangled irregularly like sonic tentacles of an octopus, unpredictably rolling on tossed with the cold streams of sharp noises. „The symbolism of the key has a double connotation since it has the power to open and close. It commands access to a place, inside a box, and to an acquaintance. Conversely, it can forbid this same access, so the key has both a role of initiation and discrimination,“ says Amédée.

DISPLAY’s latest split tape features two exciting artists from the Finnish ambient scene: Romance Relic and Softie.

On the A-Side we find a gripping cinematic piece from Romance Relic titled “Crystallized Night Jessamine”. Emblematic of the artist’s signature sound, the 18 minute track cycles through blurry and intimate scenes of delicate piano weighted by heavy synth drones. Like the soundtrack to a short film, the piece feels as though it tells a story in several parts, all connected by a distinctly contemplative tone.

Temperatures sink down to ice cold on the b-side where we find Softie experimenting with ambient laced techno and euphoric synth passages. One of the most club forward tracks to release on DISPLAY in some time, “Safe Haven (City Of Tears)” takes you on an emotional 20 minute journey capturing the feeling of a hazed out club’s most eyes-down moments. Feelings of meditation, euphoria, and weightlessness intertwine to paint a distinct and decisive statement from the artist.

The music artist and digital designer from Bangkok, @rab_neba, is presenting a track from his upcoming album "(A)Iphoria", which will be released on May 19th on the Imum Coeli label @alldayfreeself . The sound is a mix of electronica, ambient, vaporwave, and dungeon synth, crafted over 2.5 years. The album features futuristic landscapes that weave nostalgia and a mysterious dungeon atmosphere.

Rab Neba has been active in the electronic underground scene since the release of his vaporwave album "チュニック - tunic EP" in 2012 and has also co-founded bands like Goodbye Porsche (shoegaze, ambient trap, established in 2014) and Tomb de Narcisse (post-punk).

Hello, my friends! My latest track 'Return To Source' is out today. Although I am not a Christian (I do not currently identify with any particular faith) I try to be receptive to 'wisdom' regardless of the origin and while I was working on this track I was thinking about a particular Bible verse: 

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
- Matthew 7:13-14
