Eastern Passage is a new traditional folk group from the east coast of Canada, and most easterly point in North America: St. John's, Newfoundland. Local artists Justin Fancy and Johnny Dale formed an alliance that started on St. Patrick's Day weekend of 2012 and have since been together performing live in St. John's and surrounding areas. The unique combination of sounds and the love of music have brought them together to create their self-titled debut album.
The album is their first album as professionals, and joining them in accompaniment were the talented Steve Oakley (Bass Guitar/Vocals), Aaron Collis (Accordion), Mike Hanrahan (Bouzouki/Vocals), and Petty Harbour native Jim Kieley (Drums). The record focused a lot on providing listeners with an easy listening arrangement of popular Newfoundland songs, with 2 original songs in "The Tide" and "Home Down By The Shore". "The Tide" was written when Justin, originally from Conception Bay South, was just 12 years old and continues to write, arrange, and compose music. Both originals and parts of the album have been played on Newfoundland radio stations and shows such as Homebrew 97.5FM and OZFM's Jigs and Reels. With roots from Change Islands, Newfoundland, a small output community in Notre Dame Bay, "Home Down By The Shore" was originally written and sang by Oz Gatehouse and transformed by Justin.
Most recently, the band recorded a Christmas original written by Justin and Steve. “Onboard For Christmas” debuted on Friday, November 28th on iTunes.
