Spontaneity in live music is what makes it all exciting. Thursday 6 October 2011, Brno, Czech Republic. We're standing watching Lenhart Tapes working his 4 walkmen players. Rhytmics, oriental, dancey. Lee DVD who has just finished playing with her band Fuka Lata suddenly walks away towards the stage, grabbs her mike and sings. Oriental sounds, eerie vocals, as if Omar Souleyman lived in Kovacica and collaborated with Laurel Halo.

The compilation Crni Pek is a musical document of the nineties, a complicated era in Serbian history. It is, however, a very specific testimony which reflects the ouvre of outsiders who in isolation, created the alternative history of Serbian independent music. Crni Pek is a personal initiative of the former comics autor and musician Nikola Vítkovic and is preceded by several re-editions of bands from this period released on the fairly unusual format CDr. It is almost symptomatic that in times of absolute entropy, the most idiosyncratic artistic works emerged.

Yvein Monq is the nickname of the up-and-coming Hungarian producer. This clasically trained musician and student of graphic design is equally interested in visual and sonic worlds and merges these two fields in his work. He has been making music at least since his 15th year when he started producing beats. In 2010, his debut record Hookers in My Strings appeared. On a special date, the 29 February, he is releasing a conceptual record Post Apocalyptic Codex X. The aesthetics of scifi, postapocalyptics world and nuclear vibrations, mysterious atmosphere, ethereal soundscapes, bass. Yvein Monq.

Katapulto is a project of Wojtek Rusin, a Polish artist currently based in Bristol. The multicultural influences of this cosmopolitan musician, who has lived in Wroclaw, Barcelona or Bristol, also can be felt in his audiovisual work and affinity for languages which he utilizes in his musical creations. His slightly crazy, maximalistic music gradually transformed into synth-based songs. In past, he would get compared to the likes of Senor Coconut. He has peformed alongside Janek Schaefer, Ariel Pink or Micachu. The development of his music is tangible. From „spastic“ pop music, which in some ways reminds us of the German performer Felix Kubin to synth soundscapes and songs not dissimilar to current Northern American synthwave.

The Zlín-based audiovisual project Opuka is around since 11 years. During this time the band managed to self-release several LPs. The newest, called OPUKA 6, is a recording from a live show performed at Kaple Liběchov in the autumn of 2011. 

Opuka is known for their unconventional usage of new media, which can be especially felt during their live shows. They also create site-specific shows, such as the elektroacoustic performance in the factory complex Svit in Zlín, where they performed from samples and field recordings of the old forgery hall.

Vychodiska is a regular show on Czech Radio Wave broadcast every Wednesday at 11:20 and 16:20 introducing up-and-coming musicians from Central and Eastern Europe.

Eastern Daze aims to explore the current political and social status quo in some of the countries in CEE region through the eyes of the ones most vulnerable to changes in society – young artists who are still under-the-radar. It’s not going to be a patronizing Western view on “hip” Eastern Europe (perhaps in a futile search for an ounce of authenticity) - namely because we come from the East ourselves. The project aims not only to raise the awareness about up-and-coming – mainly experimental and electronic sonic – artists in the West, but – perhaps even more importantly - to increase the strikingly low informedness and foster cooperation between the Eastern artistic scenes themselves.
