There have been 2 seperate occasions in the last couple of years where my laptop has been completely bricked. All the music, all the hours of work I put into it. Gone. The first one was from a really shitty laptop I had since I was 16, it was on it's last legs so it was understandable. The second time was fairly recent, I was really drunk and high and I had just started playing my keyboard and getting the hang of it so I thought it would be cool if I sit in my bed and play with my laptop to the side. I ended up falling asleep with the keyboard in my lap, then in the middle of sleeping, I picked it up and dropped it onto my laptop. I successfully destroyed the hard drive and possibly the motherboard. So after that I was just basically riffing on my keyboard and bumming my friend's computer when I wanted to work on something. Moved from that place. Lost all the work I had on his computer(wow so make that 3 times) then I was at a complete standstill arrangement-wise. I was still playing my keyboard and taking lessons. My new roommate at the time generously gave up her laptop with windows vista and not a lot of hard drive space on it, and I'm typing on it and making music on it  still. The moral of the story is: Just keep working, even if it seems like you've lost everything, just keep working with or without the tools you need. If it comes down to it, write your music like olden times. If you don't know how to write music, go to the library and learn. Work with the shittiest tools. Do it til your mind aches. Don't wait on anyone else.  Save yourself, no one's gonna save you. (And back up your hard drive as often as you can)
