The red glow of the setting sun spills across the dojo floor. Neonlight - The Towering Inferno

Alongside the delicious aggressiveness that made Audio so renowned, his ‘Beastmode’ LP cracks him open like you’ve never heard him before. Fiercely powerful, yet intricately different, each cut from his debut album on the Ram Records imprint packs a very different punch whilst hitting with the same fierceness and wealth of talent. 

‘Beastmode’ reflects all his output to date. Whether it’s the old-school flavor of virus, or the steppy-unapologetic riddims he’s served up for Ram, this record won’t leave you questioning who rules supreme over the genre’s murkier waters. 

Whether it’s the half-time, two stepping ‘Move it Along’ or the pulsing, snarling undertones of ‘Thud’, you’re blessed with a barrage full of fresh sonic assaults. ‘Thunder Ridge’ serves as the perfect opener, a brand new record with synth-laddered foreboding intro which pushes you below the surf. Tinkling hi-hats and a distorted LFO adds shockwaves throughout the mix, submerging you even deeper. Urgent, pulsing and nastily crafted, this is Audio at his most fearsome. 

On the other hand, ‘Rogue’ presents a clanking, runaway riddim that snaps its teeth with every break. Stacked between ominous build ups and jaunty samples, the second drop flairs out as angrily as the first, demonstrating Audio’s ingenious sound design. 

And flipping the switch once again is ‘Sovereign’, a nod to the producer’s roots and a track that gradually builds its presence throughout. Between warbling stabs and peddled kick drum, you’re drawn by the aural nerves. Elevating beat patterns set you up for another descent into madness, through a stringently tight composition. 

Featuring artists, such as drum & bass heavyweight Prolix, also take center stage. Their collaboration ‘Creatures’, alongside the revered lyricist Nuklear MC, adds a welcomed surprise. ‘Creatures’ delivers everything you’d expect and more; steroid-pumped subs, the dark overture of Nuklear and apocalyptic atmospherics. 

Also featured on its weighty track listing are singles ‘Make it Happen’, ‘Overdose’, ‘Drop it Human’ and ‘Shatterdome’. They were a precursor for what was to come, which signified one of the darkest, most uncompromising productions yet on Ram Records… In all of its twenty five years of history.

One year had passed since the devastation of mankind. All life ravaged by the undead plague, a tide of death sweeping across the planet mercilessly, as the ever-growing mass of the lifeless swelled in its wake. The sentient population of the globe was reduced to pitiful numbers, hiding in the wreckage of once vibrant cities, long since destroyed in the futile battle for survival. Where once there was hope for survival, now remained only the ember of a desperate memory of a different future. The cycle of the dead was ever in motion, their ragged forms roaming in packs, haunting the urban desolation. Ever-dimming senses of their terminal animated corpses constantly ready to consume the living. An endless yearning to feed drove them relentlessly onwards through the desolate shadows of civilization’s end, whilst the earth below those skulking feet continued its galactic voyage obliviously. Above one such horde, a celestial alignment was unfurling in the cold depths of space. As the sun burned blood red against the horizon and the moon slid serenely across its infernal face, the light dimmed as heavy shade drew across planet. The shuffling of the horde paused as distant poured their anguish into the sky at the early arrival of night. Rotting faces raised to the heavens, the light of that unholy corona spilling across their putrid features. The dying rays of a bleak sunset penetrating their rotting sockets, as the SOLAR ECLIPSE leveled darkness upon the earth with raging eternal might.
 
Hungarian neurofunk legend CHRIS.SU returns to the EATBRAIN label in full force, following up his ‘Underground Culture’ label anthem and State of Mind Collaboration ‘Chariots’ with his first full EP – SOLAR ECLIPSE. From the eerie and suspenseful atmosphere of the title track in collaboration with label core JADE & MINDSCAPE, to the driven filth of THE LAST LAUGH, wrapped in the sinister lyrics of NUKLEAR, through to the shimmering but powerful sci-fi aesthetics of THE ARROW, Chris.SU delivers a pure slice of heaviness for one of dnb’s most vibe-laden imprints. The REANIMATOR sat frozen in his chair, held spellbound by the stygian gaze of his newest creation. Within the onyx depths of her eyes there was something new, something different, a quality not present in his other works. As she began to rise, he studied her movements with a mix of pride and abject terror. Before him stood his greatest creation, a life truly brought back from beyond that most final veil. She did not lurch with the brutish inhumanity of her predecessors, but rather her movements flowed with a equally inhuman grace that transcended her monstrous form. Her pallid skin and jet black hair projected an aura of unnatural beauty, taboo and forbidden by nature of her construction, yet still undeniable in its existence. Though she did not speak, there was an intent within her gaze. It was cold & alien, dipping into the edge of human comprehension but not truly existing within it. It was this aspect that set the fear surging within him. His other creations had by comparison been parodies of life, their animalistic wants and desires well within his ability to control. It was clear this was no longer the case. The meeting of their gaze created a palpable tension, a physical collision of analogous thought. The pair regarded each other as duelists, testing, probing, each searching for a moment of weakness hidden beneath the blank demeanor of their foe. Slowly, the REANIMATOR began to regain his strength, rising from his chair with newfound courage. This courage dissolved once more as he watched his creation rise in mimicry, his own movements mirrored upon her body like a marionette but for one difference. A wry grin spread slowly across her lips, illuminating that this was not merely mimicry, but mockery instead. The REANIMATOR took one step back, then another, before finally flinging himself towards his tools, fanatically searching amongst them for any that would offer salvation from the eldritch horror he had created. He turned, lashing out with a scalpel held in his trembling hand. The blade bit into the cheek of his creation as he marred her uncanny beauty in an admission of his own failure. For a brief moment, the REANIMATOR saw something new within her onyx eyes, a pain wrought by the betrayal of he who had given her a simulacrum of life. He faltered in momentary regret, empathetic of the pain which he had inflicted until he too felt a pain upon himself. Gone from his hand was the means of his betrayal, and upon his coat there lay a stain. Across his neck, a gash spread slowly, just as his creation’s grin had moments before. This time however, the slow spread of such a line was indicative not of the budding existence of a life but of the creeping end of one. His strength faltering, the REANIMATOR looked once more into the eyes of his creation. Gone was the look of pained betrayal, replaced once more by that cold & inhuman gaze. Delivered by the hand of his own work to the level of the clay from which he wrought his creations, the REANIMATOR fell to the ground with finality.
