When music hits you, you feel no pain… But that doesn’t mean it can’t ‘Hurt’.

Powerhouse quartet Task Horizon continue their incendiary slew of new singles with ‘Hurt’, an electric collaboration with rising talent and fellow Swiss soul Tenkei. A whirlwind of scorching bass textures, brisk breaks and a bittersweet vocal that could sweep you off your feet, ‘Hurt’ lives up to its name with high levels of fiery feelings, high energy and raw power.

Following ‘Sahara’ and ‘Like This’, ‘Hurt’ is another reminder of where Task Horizon are at in 2022. Having spent a great deal of the last two years in studio incubation, making the most of the strange times we’ve all been through, this year has seen them come flying out of the gates with tune after tune after tune. Forever refining their unique and potent technique, ‘Hurt’ is a perfect example of Task Horizon’s delicate fusion of elements where tech, dancefloor and euphoria all come together in a sense-melting five-minute jolt of dark emotion.

It's also the start of a series of collaborations with newcomer Tenkei. Previously releasing on Program and Fokuz, his versatility and new-gen energy is felt throughout ‘Hurt’ and is another major level up in his career. With plenty more collabs with Task Horizon in the pipeline, and his own originals, Tenkei is an exciting name to add to your radar.

The pathways of the vault reached deep into the earth, their contents hidden away from the citizens of the surface - the living - oblivious to the enigmatic codex of ever-shifting sound that modulated within. Frequencies never perceived by any still living being undulated in the darkness, refracting and fragmenting against the walls of their prison. The source was unspeakable, the existence of such a device was to be explicitly denied to the few on the periphery of the project, for the tones it produced were known to affect those who heard them with an equally enigmatic array of symptoms. The compulsions wrought from its constant and incomprehensible auditory alterations had grasped at the very core of the test-subjects’ souls, piercing the fabric of their minds and spilling their sanity across the walls of the chamber. Every conceivable test beyond the borders of morality had been performed to discern the nature of the infernal machine, but reason hesitated at the edge of the madness that emanated from the sonic maelstrom at its core. All had failed in the face of that ever-changing maw.

The device was locked away, buried, forgotten, expunged from any and all official discussion. But an echo remained, holding on to a whisper in the subtlety of a rumour, produced not by the the codex itself, but across the tongues of the very few at the fringes of the project, tantalized by the tales of sounds so deviant as to have been buried, cast as illegal. The whisper grew and spread, a hidden frequency reverberating throughout the people, its resonance growl increasing in intensity, driving all to distraction. The populace began its search, feverishly scouring the streets and the city outskirts, the machine’s call echoing and answering as they closed in on the source… enticing them as a siren with languid promises otherworldly experience. In time, before the vast sealed entry to the forgotten crypt of the codex, a mass of supplicants surged in unison at the gateway. Ravenous, single-minded, they hurled themselves at the structure, lost in the desire to be overwhelmed, drowned in the illegal audio within. As the prison wall ruptured, the machine erupted with a vast, resounding wail, tearing at its new worshippers with sonic claws forged from pure terror, wrapped in the souls of those prior who had suffered the same fate. The acolytes were thrown backwards, faces drained in horror at the momentary comprehension of the malevolent mechanical deity they had released. Their minds were pillaged of their thoughts, brainwaves seized and entwined within the codex’s power as its sonics penetrated and passed through them with vicious, unstoppable force.

A self-described ‘messed up rhythmist’, the
dark and dense musical world and frequencies
of Impak is something which many drum & bass
fans will be familiar with. The individual wave
forms he created always get their own time to
talk. His high levels of bass modulation, as well
as his weird digital textures have drawn in a
global audience which will be waiting for this next release with a keen ear. The international DJ/producer, born out of Spain, explores his digital evolution within each one of his tracks. Technology is the key and his conceptual miscegenation is the tool in which he does this. It’s a way in which he’s explored clubs and festivals in over ten different countries, playing in as many as fifty cities around Europe. His residency in Spain’s Industrial Copera gained him international attention and after releasing on a wide range of record labels, he’s had over twenty releases on the market.
All these numbers are dizzying for an artist, even for one who’s been in the game of production since he was seventeen years old. So, it comes as little surprise that he’d come under the radar of C4C, a genre changing imprint which has been running for over two decades. Having already collaborated with one of its head honchos Optiv, he’s about to unleash his ‘Perceptions’ LP on the C4C imprint.
Featuring ten colossal tracks, from the crashing drum work of ‘Global’, right through to the tech-driven madness of ‘Unhappy End’, Impak goes for the jugular. Collaborations such as Impak and Kung’s ‘Anywhere’, Impak, Optiv and CZA’s ‘Neurons’ and Impact and The Clamps ‘Passengers’ bring a host of other mainstay names into the mix. Whilst standalone records ‘Tremor’ and ‘Mastodon’ continue the harmonic highs and slamming breakdowns which Impak has become renowned for. All-in, the ‘Perceptions’ album is a massive catalogue of work. For it to be made welcome in the home of C4C makes total sense. With their commitment to changing the musical landscape and high-arching production, the combination of C4C and Impak music was a match which they knew would send shockwaves throughout the wider scene.

Within the vast plain of a once feral land glistened a metropolis of undeniable beauty, a monument to those who had triumphed over what had lain in this place before. Brightly as it shone however, the shadows cast by its towering spires told a different story. The creation of such beauty had been an ugly thing indeed, and still within its darkest alleys there were those who remembered what had been and what they had suffered. In secret they met, practitioners of the old ways who stood determined to see the return of the land’s natural state. They had watched the land carefully, seeing what others did not within each passing day’s minute differences. Thus, when the day of their ascendancy at last arrived, their ritual had already begun.

Those living at the city’s outskirts reported it first, a low rumbling that began to shake the heirlooms from their shelves. Quickly this turbulence began to spread through the city, and by the time it had reached the center the metropolis’ reckoning had arrived. A great beast had begun to smash its way through the city’s outlying areas, trampling all in its path with the unrestrained fury of the wilds. With singular intent in charged headlong towards the city’s center, reducing shops and homes to rubble without caution or care. Wrought from the flesh of one of the plain's native creatures, the great beast had been brought forth by the practitioners of the old ways to carry out their righteous vengeance. Thus they cackled as the perpetrators of their subjugation feld beneath its thunderous hooves whilst screaming out a single monstrous name, HOGZILLA.

EATBRAIN veteran Mindscape returns to the label under the newly revised moniker MNDSCP, continuing in the work of his original alias under the novel title with his latest EP on the label. Following the release of his three part Reanimator LP on the label in 2018, MNDSCP now presents HOGZILLA as his latest body of work, setting the stage for future releases under his new alias with four tracks powered by his singularly tech focused sonics.

With a soft thud and a scattering of dust motes, an intrepid explorer’s craft landed upon the planetoid. Although only a ship of medial weight, the craft sank slightly as it came to rest upon the ground, which bore a peculiar consistency that gave the planetoid its strange name. “Beautiful MUDHORN”, thought the explorer with sardonic appreciation as he stepped forth from his vessel, boots squelching into the soil below. Strange, he thought, that such an unappealing planetoid could be the only place in the galaxy to find the treasure he sought, though there was also a certain poetic irony to the situation. Gazing to the horizon, the explorer took in the magnificent view that bore the inspiration for the other half of the planet’s name. Before him towered spire after spire of sedimentary rock, long eroded and twisted into a multitude of naturally sculpted forms by the near constant rain that fell upon the planetoids surface. 

It said that within these spires that lay magnificent flora imbued with healing properties that seemed almost magical, imprisoned within the unique microclimates created as the rain eroded small chimneys into the planet’s eponymous “horns.” For the brave explorer such as himself that would risk the planetoid’s gauntlet of natural obstacles and disasters, from typhoons and mudslides to quicksand and the ravenous insectoid lifeforms that thrived amidst the ever present humidity of the place, these plantoid lifeforms were a verdant treasure trove of unbelievable import. After fighting his way through these myriad struggles and summiting one of the surface’s jagged horns, the explorer took great care in opening a passage that would not damage the fragile ecosystem below. As he reached the cavern floor, the explorer found himself surprised at his surroundings, for herein was not a magnificent natural greenhouse, nor plants of any alien nature, but simply a small patch of grass that rustled softly beneath his feet. Curious, the explorer plucked a frond from beneath him and bit into it. Met with magical revitalization after his many trials he was not, but rather with a singular and unmistakable taste: lemon. In an instant it came to him that MUDHORN was not all it had seemed, and that his eccentric employer had sent him on a galactic mission for naught but an uncommon cooking ingredient.

CHRIS.SU leads the EATBRAIN horde to new galactic realms with MUDHORN, his latest release on the label. After a long absence from the label whilst delving into sonic space on his own Fate Recordings imprint, the longtime EATBRAIN explorer returns to the label with a pair of tracks fueled by sludge slinging basslines sourced from his individual sonic journeys.

A single moment passed in silence before the view of silicone eyes, underneath which a mechanical being partook in an organic substance, taking a drag of her cigarette there within that soundless void. Though it did not produce the same biological reaction in her as it did in humans, the action possessed a certain juneau sais quoi, an attitude that she delighted in performing even at a moment like this. With her inhale, she briefly considered disabling her pain sensors. With her exhale, she clung to the humanity they brought her. Instead, she chose to fire her left tear duct, letting a single bead of moisture hang like fresh dew at the corner of her eye. Would they find her and reassemble her? She wondered at the thought, but hoped not. The city before her had been her world, and now before her it disappeared.

The shockwave tore through her body in an instant, traveling at a speed not slowed even by the durable alloys of which her skeleton was composed. She felt wire after wire detach, disconnecting the circuits that fed information to the high speed processor that served as her brain. There went her hair, her right leg, her ring finger and the ring it bore. In the instant that she was dismantled by the blast she pondered how the humans felt at this exact moment, or if their brains were too slow to process what was occurring to them. Her skull detached from her faceplate, and with the remaining voltage her brain experienced one final thought. “So this is what it feels like to die”.

EATBRAIN powerhouse MNDSCP debuts his latest work on the label with his SLICER EP, a name that portends well to the expertly honed sonics that lie within. Following his previous EP “Plot Hole” on the label, MNDSCP continues to augment the EATBRAIN horde with an array of sonic cybernetic enhancements, all powered by the mind of the machine behind SLICER.
