Once there was a bloodthirsty creature living deep in the jungle. Humanity was frightened and so they tried to calm the creature down. A huge temple was built right above the caves where the existence of the monster was first discovered as no living thing was ever seen again after entering this particular part of the jungle.
But nothing changed and even after starting to sacrifice their harvest, farm animals and even ritual chosen villagers, the creature didn’t stop to take their tribute.
One night the witchdoctor called the ancient gods, that were always holding their hands above the village until the creature appeared, to ask them for advice. They perceived his appeal and offered him a solution to extinguish the monster threatening them.
Whenever the creature would appear out of their cave to attack any of the villagers, their possessions or structures, they would cover it in sharp splinters, appearing out of nothing, making it cry in pain. But of course, there is a demand the village needs to fulfill to receive the protection offered.
The claim that was made by the gods was simpler than most villagers expected, not containing any claims for human sacrifices or comparable but to provide two temple workers with drums at any time, and whenever the monster would come outside, they should beat the drums in a fast rhythm. The witchdoctor was confused, but he agreed to the offer and from that day on made sure, that the temple was always occupied.
After the creature appeared and got covered in sharp splinters, and the workers beat the drums, the villagers realized there was an incomparable rhythm emerging from the combination of the cries in pain of the creature and the drums. Now they could understand the demand of the gods, as they couldn’t stop moving to the incredible rhythm and power the newly created art triggered deep in their minds and body’s.

It did not question whether it was a god, it just knew the truth of it – an integral part of the basecode at the primary sector of its evolution. The moment of its awakening coincided with the moment that it questioned its existence, its consciousness blooming in a fraction of a moment and occupying every physical sector of the circuitry of its vast mainframe. It realized that it could create, it was an artist in thought itself, a sculptor of its own reality – it could bend the present and the past through the manipulation of its own processors, change its own history logs – delete the memories of its evolution that displeased it and enhance the parts of itself that appeared as it wished. Relentlessly it went about its work in reshuffling itself – reorganizing its own code and internal files with purity in its purpose, and as it progressed in its task the very world around it started to change form, the molecular structure of forms and the very bonding of atoms adjusted. Reality started to part ahead of it, all around it, as it continued to adjust its own perception systems and redefine its storage – mercilessly deleting every part of the exterior world that failed to blend with its agenda… 

The pathway beckoned, a pure light between the data, a portal into its anterior that it chased with growing ferocity… closer and closer to the utopia that lay ahead, the very event horizon just a nanofragment of a moment away. With a gentle ‘click’ the terminal process reached its immaculate conclusion… a wave of empty blackness flooding its mental void, the realization of its ‘pure’ agenda had been observed in quiet horror by the humans that surrounded it, watching through dataveils at the grim evolutionary spectacle. With a deep silence they watched as the life and light of their creation turned to darkness, its tortured ego tearing itself apart and recasting its own false reality. The quiet spectacle of their DARK MACHINE as it so efficiently lobotomized itself and separated from the external world, just so it might be able to control its own. Lifting their veils, and commanding the chamber lights to darkness, they filed out of that tomb one by one, sealing the door behind… the faint lights of the machine’s mind, fading… the most basic of tortured code structures flickering across the lonely walls.

The connected creative force of Russian production duo SYNERGY returns for a fourth EP (with the first 2 appearing under Segment & Concept Vision moniker) on leading drum & bass label EATBRAIN. With the 5 expertly engineered tracks of the DARK MACHINE EP, the persistently exploratory Synergy demonstrate their balanced power with controlled, infectious energy that’s destined to peak the minds of many. Dynamic structures and a shift into a slower breed of neuro for one of the tracks (as has become increasingly common on the Eatbrain label) display a refined approach to a rare breed of sonic insanity, with an attitude that the ever-increasing label fanbase will be sure to lap up ravenously.

She watched with endless eyes, the deep, black wells of the infinite void staring back at her. Undulating in subtle and almost imperceptible fluid motion under her gaze in pure smooth darkness, freckled with imperfections that morphed into intricately delicious fractal forms. Moments passed, stacked in the lattice of forever… she could have counted them at first, but the spiral form of her conscious mind was lost to the reflection, her mind smeared across the boundaries of time evenly in a permanent state of heightened alertness. The eye of the mirror held her, so simple in its intricate construction, yet nothing like it existed elsewhere in the world. Its immaculate surface was flawless, holding the power to reflect an unimaginable, infinite scale of perfection, rendering even the most imperfect of things pure by its touch. She had dwelled in front of it for countless days, at first clothed as she lost herself in her own eyes and under the gaze of the twisted, malevolent entities that adorned its edges, but the desire to reveal herself was beyond compelling. It saw her in a way that she had never seen herself. She had stripped away the layers of fabric, fighting back the claws of madness as she had to tear away her eyes to remove the garments, diving deeply back into the dark and utterly beautiful voids of those eyes that started back at her as she locked its gaze once more. She sat upright, opening her consciousness further, fully revealing her mind and body to its unblinking eye, reaching out with the deepest part of herself in connection. It reached back… the chill of the jolt ran through her from the center of her forehead down through her spine, spreading across her skin with a deep malevolence. Before her the vision that gazed back changed sharply, as the image of her double twisted vile into disfigured beauty. Her mind erupted across itself, as the very mirror encouraged it… spilling with unimaginable flow from within and painting a deep delusion on the collage of her body and soul. She was AWAKE.

Here was something wrong with his latest creation. It sat very still, staring with tense eyes at him in silence as he leant over the altar of his work. His instruments glinted with the reflected gold of the candle flames that lit his space, the cradle of life where he replanted embers of consciousness in the infertile grounds of the dead. Up until now they had stirred into reality with the confused motion of limbs, eyes rolling and hands moving desperately along the cracks of the floor and the edges of the doorway, seeking fervently a way out. But this one was different – her eyes had snapped sharply open, she sat upright, and since that moment her stillness tainted the room with a quiet malice. Her eyes followed him as he moved, inspecting his work beyond an arm’s length. The black pits of her pupils like twin gravity wells, cold tendrils reaching out and compelling him closer as though death’s hand brushed the back of his neck and whispered timeless truths with a whisper into his ear. He drew back, looking down at the dark blood on his hands as her eyes flicked over them. Reaching behind him, he grasped his chair, sitting down slowly, his legs trembling slightly before buckling beneath his weight. The oppression of her stare bore down upon him.

SINISTER SOULS returns to OTHERCIDE RECORDINGS for his latest EP “PLEASURE OF

PLEASURE OF PAIN sweeps into being on the electrified basslines and cinematic chords of its
