Two of the most forward-thinking names in electronic music and key figures in the Evolution Chamber camp, Joe Ford and Task Horizon unite for a project that feels as ambitious as it is personal. ‘In Orbit’ — a four-part collaboration rooted in a chance conversation and fuelled by a mutual drive to explore new musical territory — invites listeners into a world of precision-engineered sound design, cinematic storytelling, and creative freedom.

The series begins with “Where Is The Moon?”, a track that sets the conceptual and emotional tone for what’s to follow. Featuring an exceptional vocal performance from The Velvet Effect, this first chapter is anything but typical. Opening with a bed of atmospheric textures, the track establishes a mood that feels expansive yet intimate — before The Velvet Effect’s vocals gradually emerge, adding depth and narrative weight that elevates the entire composition.

As the track unfolds, tight, stop-start melodic phrasing acts as the engine room, creating a feeling of suspension and anticipation. These intricate structures — paired with The Velvet Effect’s haunting delivery — guide the track into a beautifully restrained yet powerful drop. It’s a moment that feels less like a peak and more like a shift in dimension, marking the beginning of a larger journey through sound.

‘Where Is The Moon?’ is the gateway into ‘In Orbit’ — a thematic body of work built on trust, experimentation, and a deep understanding of each other’s musical language. Deep beneath the icy surface of the planetoid’s frigid oceans slumbered an extraterrestrial behemoth, the progenitor from which a range of species sown across the galaxy’s furthest reaches had been sown. Its hulking cartilaginous form had spent eons there in the darkness where no light could fall, warmed and nourished by the geothermal vents that spewed forth the vital gasses of the planetoid’s molten core. Securing the domains of its progeny across galactic space had been a monumental endeavour even for a primordial creature such as itself, and thus in stasis it had lain for millennia, an ancestor forgotten and a creator unknown. 

The creature had been roused by the tectonic shifting of the planetoid’s crust, a clocklike pattern that operated on a scale of ages incomprehensible to any mortal being. A full cycle had passed in the shifting of the continental plates upon which it lay, and the great MANTA was stirred by their rumbling alarm. As it awoke, the first flap of its outstretched fins formed a vortex of whirling water amidst the oceanic depths, and far above the oceanic surface ice began to crack under this distant pressure before shattering into shimmering shards that glistened in the blue light of the planetoids nearby neutron star. From the gaping maw of this vortex, the great MANTA emerged, its undulating wings whipping the winds into a monstrous gale as it took to the skies. With an otherworldly shriek, the ancient beast shot forth into the skies above, dissappearing INTO THE NIGHT of the endless space from whence it had came.

MANTA flies to the fore of the EATBRAIN horde with four tracks featuring aqueous basslines and rhythms that surge with interstellar force as he dives INTO THE NIGHT for his latest release on the EATBRAIN label.

In an age to come, the being would wake again, consuming the distant ancestors of the life that it had now born into existence. For the current age, its duty had been fulfilled - the cycle of DIVERGENCE had been carried out once more.
