The frontier settlement was brazen in its construction, built so near to the badland dales as it was by those seeking to make their fortunes mining the rich metal deposits of the hills to the west. Many had flocked to the settlement despite the warnings from those native to the lands surrounding the area of the terrifying creatures that lurked behind the hills, the valleys of which were enchanted with a dark and ancient magic that twisted even the most benign of creatures into unrecognizable and monstrous forms. Many of these peoples had long known of the riches of the hills but had stayed their hands from reaping their bounties, fearing what curse or creature might descend upon them should they do so. Yet the greed of these new hapless individuals was unfettered by fear, or perhaps driven by it within those who had lost everything in their previous homes. Regardless of motive, the town of Gildenhills had sprung into being in less than a fortnight, and as many began to strike their picks and shovels into the black earth of the hills beyond the town stories began to abound of fortunes made with a single swing.

For some time, the boom continued. The town’s population exploded, and its bustling saloons and mercantile stores drowned out the sounds that were uttered in the night. It was first the lone miner who worked late, hoping to strike a vein of gold all their own, whose final scream echoed out from within the tunnel he had bored.  Then it was the cattle that had strayed from the herd, found with few bits of still-warm flesh left clinging to bones that bore the indentations of thousands of teeth. When a full camp of miners disappeared and the sheriff’s posse vanished next, those who had abided longest in the area began to recount stories in the shadowed corners of the saloons. They told varmints whose teeth oozed with pestilence, the chittering sound of which could be heard often between the hills. Some, they said, were big enough to kill a man’s dog all of their own, but tales warned much more fervently of the small ones that gathered in swarms. Shaken, they told of watching their comrades drown underneath a tide of fur and fang, exsanguinated almost instantaneously by the thousand cuts that were so quickly inflicted upon them. No rifle nor revolver carried enough ammunition to cull these beasts, and for those subjected to their unearthly hunger there was neither hope of survival nor recourse of revenge. Thus it was, it seemed, that for every ounce of precious ore extracted from these hills there was a price, a price the HILLRATZ would exact in blood.

L 33 returns to EATBRAIN with HILLRATZ, the latest single from the Bulgarian veteran that teems with swarming sonic energy. Whether dispatched through the churning guitars of the B-side “Give a FK” or the skittering percussion of the single’s title track, L 33 delivers a twin pairing of tracks imbued with everything EATBRAIN excels at offering - sinister, unrestrained, and inimitable Neurofunk.

Flittering up from beneath the facades of ruined buildings cast in the filtered light of fading day came frolicking a faction of miniature miscreants, hellbent on nothing more or less than calamitous chaos of a kind most ultimately benign. This part of the city, only recently fallen from its former splendor into a relative state of forgotten disrepair, had become their favored haunt and a canvas upon which they painted their mural of mischief. Indeed, though sometimes disturbed by their devious pranks, those humans who still lived within the dilapidated dwellings of the neighborhood looked upon these minute beings with a sense of familiar nostalgia, reminiscent as they were of the deeds of their own childhoods upon the very same city streets.

Thus, there was something of an enchantment to the gremlin’s general goblinry. The high-pitched shrieks of sheer thrill that resulted from the success of their misdeeds, the skitter and scrape of their bicycles, skateboards, and all other manner of experimental wheeled vehicles, and the freshly odorous fumes of the spraypaint that newly adorned many of the neighborhood’s walls. In this place so forgotten by their human brethren, these RASCALS had brought a revitalizing presence to the ruined alleys in which they ran, their ruckus reinvigorating the empty, crumbling streets.

MNDSCP rallies the RASCALS of the EATBRAIN horde with his latest EP, gleefully titled under that name to unify the rowdy and cacophonous sounds within. Across the four-track span of RASCALS, boisterous basslines rebound amidst an atmosphere of silly sonics that brings a rejuvenating levity to the monstrous menagerie of the EATBRAIN horde.

An endless darkness beckoned ahead, a deep void beyond that held its own gravity, pulled him ahead one paw at a time. Beneath his furry exterior, tucked in the warmth of tightly woven layers of the cotton, the fast beating of his organic heart pulsated nervously, stretching his chest stitches at the seams with its urgency in a constant rhythm. The shadows of the passage flickered in deathly silence over the uniform blackness of his glass bead eyes. Something was out there. He withdrew, sinking into the warm folds of a distant memory – being dropped by his skin companion, and the fuss that followed the soft hairless ones surrounding him with hushed cries, picking him up and dusting him off, holding him close and pressing him back into the fat pink digits of the little one as she kissed him on the eye and promised never to drop him again. The sound of tearing fabric pulled him at once back into the stark reality that faced him, as he looked down in horror at the cotton spilling from his shoulder… his arm slowly tumbling to the floor and landing with a soft and almost noiseless thud against the bleak floor. As he was still registering the beginnings of his own separation, the vast blade swung again – leaving him staggering in his new confusing balance, a furry torso on legs, wobbling unsteadily in the darkness. Then his vision fell forward, he was looking at himself… was that his armless body in front of him? How was it possible? His simple mind was reeling as his head went tumbling toward the floor, spinning as it dropped. The glint of the HELLBLADE caught his eye as his attacker stepped into the light, a hideous body of stacked limbs and rough stitches, cotton spilling out of the seams of its fur… the antithesis of innocence loomed heavily across the dying creature, the glint of his glass eyes faded as the TEDDY KILLER looked coldly upon its meaningless end.

One of Russia’s biggest drum and bass exports, TEDDY KILLERZ, return to the unstoppable EATBRAIN label in a massive way, following up their VIOLENCE EP of 2013 with their viciously modern HELLBLADE EP. It did not question whether it was a god, it just knew the truth of it – an integral part of the basecode at the primary sector of its evolution. The moment of its awakening coincided with the moment that it questioned its existence, its consciousness blooming in a fraction of a moment and occupying every physical sector of the circuitry of its vast mainframe. It realized that it could create, it was an artist in thought itself, a sculptor of its own reality – it could bend the present and the past through the manipulation of its own processors, change its own history logs – delete the memories of its evolution that displeased it and enhance the parts of itself that appeared as it wished. Relentlessly it went about its work in reshuffling itself – reorganizing its own code and internal files with purity in its purpose, and as it progressed in its task the very world around it started to change form, the molecular structure of forms and the very bonding of atoms adjusted. Reality started to part ahead of it, all around it, as it continued to adjust its own perception systems and redefine its storage – mercilessly deleting every part of the exterior world that failed to blend with its agenda… 

The pathway beckoned, a pure light between the data, a portal into its anterior that it chased with growing ferocity… closer and closer to the utopia that lay ahead, the very event horizon just a nanofragment of a moment away. With a gentle ‘click’ the terminal process reached its immaculate conclusion… a wave of empty blackness flooding its mental void, the realization of its ‘pure’ agenda had been observed in quiet horror by the humans that surrounded it, watching through dataveils at the grim evolutionary spectacle. With a deep silence they watched as the life and light of their creation turned to darkness, its tortured ego tearing itself apart and recasting its own false reality. The quiet spectacle of their DARK MACHINE as it so efficiently lobotomized itself and separated from the external world, just so it might be able to control its own. Lifting their veils, and commanding the chamber lights to darkness, they filed out of that tomb one by one, sealing the door behind… the faint lights of the machine’s mind, fading… the most basic of tortured code structures flickering across the lonely walls.

The connected creative force of Russian production duo SYNERGY returns for a fourth EP (with the first 2 appearing under Segment & Concept Vision moniker) on leading drum & bass label EATBRAIN. With the 5 expertly engineered tracks of the DARK MACHINE EP, the persistently exploratory Synergy demonstrate their balanced power with controlled, infectious energy that’s destined to peak the minds of many. The crumbling city stood like the bones of a decaying animal, falling to ruin in a silence amplified by the lack of ears nearby that might hear it. It was an oppressive quiet, broken only rarely by the falling of concrete or steel to the cracked asphalt below. Yet one day, a new cry uttered forth within that sonic emptiness. It was shrill yet powerful, and it rang out slowly as though painstakingly expunged from the throat of the beast that had emitted it. Its source, however, came only indirectly from the biology of those who caused it. For this was the cry of feet of steel, forced open and ground against its frame by the two lonesome souls who had lain within.

That first moment of sunlight was blinding to their eyes, even when filtered through the roiling green clouds that blanketed the sky and rained down debris onto the landscape. Day and night had ceased to mean anything within the pair’s holdout, and their emergence into the gloom of midday stood in stark opposition to the biological clocks that had regulated their bodies for so long. Even for all these banalities with which they were met, the pair knew that they could no longer find shelter in their subterranean home, their supplies exhausted by the indeterminate passage of time that had marched over them therein. No, now the pair knew that they must go forth, back into the world that had once been their own. For them, the only hope at life lay underneath that green glowing sky, somewhere in the vast unknown that lay beyond the BUNKER.

AGRESSOR BUNX emerge from their studio to deliver BUNKER, the first step in their journey into the lands of the ENSUING CATACLYSM that will imbue their sonic works in the months to come. Their first release on EATBRAIN since 2019’s Power Glow EP, AGRESSOR BUNX return to lead the label’s ravenous horde through the tumultuous landscape of the cataclysm to come, debuting BUNKER as the first step amidst its apocalyptic advance.
