Although dawn was just breaking, the beach was abuzz with activity. A swarm of surf enthusiasts and their shieldlike boards had gathered like a phalanx on the shores in anticipation of what was to come that day, hoping to be the first to catch the perfect waves that were set to soon crest atop the glistening tropical waters for the ride of a lifetime. Rumors abounded as to why the waves had come, from the mixture of a myriad of perfect climatic conditions to the arrival of a singular school of mystically empowered fish to the reef that lay beneath them. Whatever the case, with the rising of the sun came waves of greater and greater magnitude and a cacophony of cheers from the beachfront as the first boards were launched into the maw of the roaring ocean.

As the idyllic day continued above the waters a sinister presence circled below, its eyes gazing hungrily at the ovoid shadows that flit above the water. The native sharks of the reef, normally content to feed on the buffet of fish that it housed, were afflicted with an unnatural hunger. Thus it was that when the perfect moment presented itself, they struck, abandoning their solitary ways and falling upon a poor hapless surfer as a ravenous pack. The small jaws afforded by their shallow habitat tore chunks of flesh from the surfer’s body in a death by 1000 cuts, and yet the mercy of death would not be granted to this thrillseeker. As he returned to the shore, bloodied and with protruding bones, many fellow surfers flocked around him to question his condition. In response, all the surfer could muster was “the waves… were so… GNARRRRRRRRR”, before leaping upon his compatriots with the selfsame bloodlust of the sharks which had granted him this new and unending hunger.

MNDSCP returns to EATBRAIN with the three terrifying tracks that make up his latest EP, GNAR, summoning a deluge of subsonic sound waves for the label’s horde to feast their ears upon from the biting bassline of FLESH EATER to the high power percussion of HAZE.

Hailing from Sao Paulo, Acuna is a producer who’s currently causing some very large waves in club-land, with his gritty Drum & Bass tracks rearing their head in more and more sets as time goes on. Born atop the forgotten ruins of a crumbling city, a new civilization had emerged from the ruin wrought by demonkind upon the landscape that lay beneath them. Lead by their prophets of a new and powerful faith, the people of this civilization had risen up against the demon kings, wielding the magic of their divine allies as weapons with which to exorcise their being once more from the land. This war though hard fought had born fruit, and with the slaying of the final demon the people had rejoiced, celebrating their victories with monumental constructions to mark the beginning of a new and golden era. Foremost of these was the great cathedral that lay at the heart of their new city, built both as a space of worship for the populace and as an eternal ward of imprisonment for the souls of demonkind which could not be slain, forever condemning them to an incorporeal existence under the watchful eye of the divine.

Ages had passed since then, and time had once again ground its steady edge against the minds of the people and upon the stones and timbers that had supported the great city for so long. Ritual had been forgotten, and structures of greater grandeur had been built as the city expanded, relegating it’s once monumental cathedral to neglect. Thus it was that the falling of only a single candle had lit an aged timber in it’s great hall, in so doing weakening the ancient wards that had kept the demonic spirits at bay. Ever vigilant in their ceaseless desire to escape, the demon kings fanned this flame with their focused ire, nurturing it from a single mote into a overwhelming conflagration that tore at the runic chains that had bound them for so long. Before long, the roaring of the flames was augmented by the howls of demonic spirits set free from a millennia of imprisonment, their visages taking form in the fire as manifestations of their burning rage. As the inferno bellowed ever higher, the city cowered in fear, for it was clear that the time of DIVERGENCE had come once more.

EATBRAIN unleashes the full fury of their horde with the fourth installment in their DIVERGENCE compilation series, a gargantuan 26 track compilation filled to the brim with new tracks from EATBRAIN mainstays and newcomers alike. Brought together by their affinities for EATBRAIN’s unrestrained neurofunk sound, the artists within deliver a tour de force of the label’s guiding philosophy with ferocious basslines and terrifying sonic atmospheres alike, delivering a mammoth series of tracks set to inspire the fervor of the label’s horde in the months to come.

Proving yet again that Program pedestals versatility and musicianship, the imprint returns with another record which shows it’s here to stay. Featuring the renowned tastemaker Crissy Criss, who has premiered some of the bigger drum &amp; bass anthems across the radio airwaves, as well as budding newcomer Malux and Brighton Maestro Erb N Dub, these fresh cuts feature three artists that demonstrate a winning combination.

Up first is the dirtier dancefloor slayer ‘Blizzard’. Epitomising the darker sounds these three bring together, it’s a techy slice of distorted bassline and snappy stabs which roll you deeper into its directly thick composition. Peddled on kick drum with tinny percussion filtering through the mix, prepare yourself to be drawn into the murkier depths of dancefloor’s globally. Switching up midway, the trio take you to a depth they master ingeniously.

You’re then introduced to the brooding, rolling number ‘Wonky’. Described perfectly within its own name, this lumbering yet dynamic track provides a switch up in any set. Setting out on a funky undercurrent, its falling arpeggios and bouncing subs take you across a production line of carefully crafted beats. Fiercely different from its predecessor, you’re provided with a glimpse of the producers’ capabilities. A set of skills sure to see them appear on your playlists this summer.
