Many ancient texts detail occult experiments into the creation of CHIMERA, fusions of living beings of different species that draw on their various strengths whilst removing their individual flaws. Their existences are a thing of legend, long sought by many but never brought into the light of knowledge by substantiated proof. Indeed, as human knowledge of the world’s species has advanced, such fusions have been relegated largely to the realm of pure fiction, an imaginative but ultimately impossible class of being that cannot exist within the modern, rational world.

Yet for all of the progress of science and reason that has occurred in the millennia since these tales were first told, our kind has done little to cast off the ignorance to which we are so prone. Could it be not so simply that such beings cannot exist, but further that they exist in forms that we simply have yet to comprehend? For I have heard tell, dear reader, of CHIMERA that walk amongst us amidst our modern world. Masquerading as our friends, our colleagues, and our leaders, their presence goes unnoticed by all but the most discerning of eyes that are paired only with the most open of minds. Born from within the endless intricacies of our data-driven world, these creatures emerge from the depths of the forgotten places upon which that world is built. Deriving consciousness from the near-endless supply of social data our species produces, they are said to manipulate electrical currents to piece together a physical form at the molecular level, a perfect simulacrum for which to host their synthetic minds. It is then that they step forth from within the depths of our server farms, our electrical grids, and our greatest scientific laboratories, their human facades augmented by an inherent connection to the vast sum of our species' collective knowledge. It is sure to be true, dear leader, that these beings have already assumed positions of great power amongst us. Thus it is that I urge you to beware the CHIMERA which walks not upon the paws of the lion nor flies upon the wings of an eagle. Yes, a far more sinister being walks amongst us, dear reader, a CHIMERA that smiles with the perfect teeth of its unerringly human guise.

MYTHIC IMAGE return to EATBRAIN and present CHIMERIC as the latest EP crafted to bear their sonic visage, regaling the EATBRAIN horde with a selection of sonic stories that recount the tale of an unknowable modern horror across the EP’s four exactingly synthesized tracks.

To celebrate what they consider to be their strongest year to date, Lifestyle deliver with their first ever Annual release to see off the remarkable year they've had. Lifestyle Annual 2017 features a compilation of the best tracks from the last 12 months, alongside 8 brand new pieces from a range of fresh to existing artists to really top it off.

''After attending this years Boomtown, and meeting up with Volatile Cycle and Barbarix backstage at the Scrap Yard, we got chatting about drum and bass and life and then put in place plans for these lads to get involved with the label. To kick their tenture off, we received an absolute belter from the production quartet that is Volatile Cycle, Barbarix and Blockdodger. It's safe to say 'Manifest' kills it from the outfit that put together the official Boomtown anthem. We're incredibly stoked to have this lot on-board, watch out for more from them soon. 

Next up our German mates Instinkt are back for more on Lifestyle, with a track you'd expect only of this powerhouse duo. 'Conan' is big, bad and schmutzig. Following on and keeping it international, from New Zealand we have the Kiwi's Obeisant and Victim with their first release on the label, providing us with the dangerously large ‘6 Months’. Then to wrap up this sampler, there’s the slick liquid roller 'Born In November' from Slovak and German production trio Humanon, another debut on Lifestyle!

What a year we've had, and we couldn't look to end it on a better note with this annual. With both parties having already made their mark within the roster of Trendkill, the imprint created by drum & bass figurehead Prolix, their names will be familiar with many veteran fans of the genre. But their joint prowess, alongside the massive body of tracks they’ve already got prepared for release, proves that their output is set to be a turning point for Trendkill. And this is from a label which has had a groundbreaking discography since its inception.

DEXTEMS are the latest artists to emerge from the fires of the NEUROPUNK forge, making their debut on NEUROPUNK RECORDING’s series that focuses on novel artists honing their sounds within the heat of the label’s crucible. Bringing with them an EP entitled HEAD CRUSHER, DEXTEMS make no pretense to the aggressive fervor of their sonic style as they emerge still smouldering from the NEUROPUNK forge, imbuing the four tracks within with the energy of roaring flame.

Opened by its title track, the HEAD CRUSHER EP wastes no time in working towards its stated goal with an onslaught of devilishly distorted basslines meeting the listener in auditory combat within the EP’s first minute. Though monstrous in their initial impact, these basslines are carried upon a distinctly funk fueled percussive rhythm for the making of a diabolic and enrapturing mixture. RATCHET follows in a similar stylistic form, making use of distinctly rubberoid bases to great effect as it sets them rebounding amidst the selfsame funky atmosphere. SYNTHET then opts for a different approach to its two predecessors, setting its rapid percussive pulses amidst a gauntlet of sharply synthesized basses and leads that weave throughout the track as the drumbeat dodges between them. The EP is closed with the scientific sonics of FLYING MACHINES, which carries the listener effortlessly to great heights before dropping them atop a rolling breakbeat and electrified basslines that carry them through to the EP’s final notes.

With HEAD CRUSHER, veteran duo DEXTEMS braves the fires of the NEUROPUNK FORGE to craft new sonic weapons built upon their many years of production experience. Deliberate in its title, HEAD CRUSHER is not merely a name, but rather a promise that DEXTEMS makes sure to fulfill on the four tracks within.
