It’s been a battering ram recently, we won’t lie and it’s not letting up. There have been many impacts of a catastrophic nature lately, from life-changing pandemics to the impact on your pocket whenever you pick up some damn fuel!

Ever ready to provide an audio commentary for the erosion of our civilization (we welcome it at this point), we proudly present to you ‘Catastrophic Impact’…

The track begins with a drawling newsreel (Fakenews, real news, naturally bad news) predicting a terrifying event. A spotlight is shone upon governments' tendency to KEEP THINGS FROM US as breaks and bass tease into the drop.

From that point on-wards, an homage to old-skool Neurofunk slappers and FM brass knuckles proceeds to expressly liquidize your gurning jaw with some serious sound fire. The track keeps a strong and stable core while chopping and changing the groove throughout to keep you dancing through your chosen apocalypse.

Hanzom presents the latest addition to the catalogue in the form of a brand new EP series: " The Gathering". This series showcases twisted variations in productions (VIP) of previously released music on the label, turning old creatures into new ones and bringing new perspectives to explored territory. For the first installment, we gathered Finalfix, Nemean, Surge, Smeerlapp & BorkerBrothers to work on some of their favourite own Hanzom releases. If you are familiar with the Hanzom discography then those names should ring a bell. If not, then brace yourself because you are in for a treat.

Those who remained were hopeless. Around them, the savagery of the world had torn through their cities, their homes, and their communities. Nature's most destructive forces had proven their mastery over the steel-shod constructions that for so long had seemed impervious to harm, as though driven to prove its provenance over the land once more. What had once been safe, bucolic, and welcoming - the very earth itself, had rejected its children. Thus, when the REAPER came, their ears turned readily towards the melodious call of its alien maw.

The deaths of their compatriots had been torturous, and more were lost to the ensuing cataclysm each day. There was no salvation for the corpses that lay strewn upon the ground, and it was at the beckoning of this mass death that the REAPER had come, heeding the call of a people without hope or home. A being of flesh and alloy alike, its gnarled form seemed to be all that could withstand the apocalyptic conditions that ravaged the world, and thus when a doorway appeared on the chest of its gnarled form, none were surprised when others began to take shelter within. Though they did not return, more entered the doorway on the next day and the day after that, and before long there were scant few who did not await their salvation before the REAPER’s facade. They knew not whether salvation or death lay within, but one thing was certain - no harrowed screams ever escaped the REAPER’s alien form, and for that alone, most all were willing to give themselves up to him.

NUVERTAL returns to EATBRAIN with REAPER, shepherding the EATBRAIN horde to the dancefloor once more with the destructive rhythms of his second EP on the label and continuing to rise as a champion of cinematic sonics for the label’s faithful.

Paperfunk Recordings has always respected — and will continue to respect — the technoid and techno-DnB sound, and we've always strived to contribute as a label to the development of this branch of Drum & Bass.

While techno-DnB emerged back in the early 2000s alongside titanic subgenres like neurofunk and techstep, technoid drum and bass was born under far more intricate and subtle circumstances. The rise of the technoid subgenre is directly tied to a particular group of artists and their unique sonic influence during the years 2007 to 2011.

Its peak — the true triumph of technoid — was in 2008, right at the center of this period. That was the golden age of the subgenre we love, when labels like Offkey, Sinuous, and many others were putting out astonishingly heavy releases with utterly mad and unpredictable sound design.

We’re bringing that tradition back. We’re reviving the raw power and chaos of technoid and techno-DnB — and with great pride, we present to you our new compilation: TECHNOID: GREATEST COMEBACK VOL. 1

This series will feature works by artists who embody the very essence of why these subgenres continue to captivate us. Passion, dedication and hard work - Kosenprod is a label which is all about these things and more. Created back in 2011, the label is known to cross boundaries between bass music, techno and drum & bass, with a diverse roster of artists and producers all with an eye and an ear for creativity and sincerity.

Electricity bristles across the mix, as S&A is revealed as a true slice of tech-influenced drum & bass genius.

Elevated far above the streets in one of the towering high-rise buildings that dominated the urban heart, the sound of the high-octane pursuit below barely penetrated the bleak musty cubical. Its cigarette-stained walls are etched with the marks he’d made to signify the passing of his life in this space. The ever-present hum of building’s servers that once he’d thought faintly pleasant, oppressively penetrated his eardrums - continually evolving… scraping the inside of his brain like sonic sandpaper. Flickering lights from the city’s exterior advertisements strobed across the dark sea of cubicles, the huddled occupants of each fixated on the faint glow of their viewscreens, their enslaved minds pouring over the flow of a sea of meaningless data. The lights hurt his eyes these days, each wave illuminating his dank space peaked his migraine – like shards of glass penetrating deep into the roots of his skull and twisting within his cortex on the way. He was at the edge, hovering on the very horizon of sanity itself… the boundary blurring – what was more insane – this existence? Or the one he desired – to tear himself free from the bonds of this reality… for his heart to burn with the light of a thousand stars as he steered his body towards the purity of presence outside of this slavery… to defy the great architect and stand proud just for a moment… Just as this thought manifested, he felt the tight grip upon his shoulder - briskly pulling him around to see the corrupt, fat, distorted face of the overseer sneering down through that twisted crevice of a mouth. Those chains broke – he felt his hand grasping the keyboard that he had been so long manacled to in his mind, moving with the rotation of the chair as he rose swiftly with the roar that escaped him so fluidly. The overseer’s shocked expression froze in time as the keyboard collided with his mouth – landing with such brutal force that the shockwave passed through his fat face. With that roar, he felt free… he had found himself.
 
SEGMENT & CONCEPT VISION follow up their incredible MAMMOTH EP with their 2nd impressive outing on neurofunk’s leading label, EATBRAIN. Proving once more the exceptional skill of their combined production with the 5 heavy-duty tracks of the ROAR EP (including free release with the vocal-led ‘EMPIRE’), the pair set the bar high through their powerful sound. Whether it’s the stuttering might of title track ROAR with its nightmare fueled arpeggios, or the dub-influenced sci-fi majesty of THIRST (featuring COD3X) - each track proves more relentless than the last. This is tear-out neurofunk at its best, proving once again the strength of the EATBRAIN sound and cementing another incredible pair of Russian producers within the roster.

One year had passed since the devastation of mankind. All life ravaged by the undead plague, a tide of death sweeping across the planet mercilessly, as the ever-growing mass of the lifeless swelled in its wake. The sentient population of the globe was reduced to pitiful numbers, hiding in the wreckage of once vibrant cities, long since destroyed in the futile battle for survival. Where once there was hope for survival, now remained only the ember of a desperate memory of a different future. The cycle of the dead was ever in motion, their ragged forms roaming in packs, haunting the urban desolation. Ever-dimming senses of their terminal animated corpses constantly ready to consume the living. An endless yearning to feed drove them relentlessly onwards through the desolate shadows of civilization’s end, whilst the earth below those skulking feet continued its galactic voyage obliviously. Above one such horde, a celestial alignment was unfurling in the cold depths of space. As the sun burned blood red against the horizon and the moon slid serenely across its infernal face, the light dimmed as heavy shade drew across planet. The shuffling of the horde paused as distant poured their anguish into the sky at the early arrival of night. Rotting faces raised to the heavens, the light of that unholy corona spilling across their putrid features. The dying rays of a bleak sunset penetrating their rotting sockets, as the SOLAR ECLIPSE leveled darkness upon the earth with raging eternal might.
 
Hungarian neurofunk legend CHRIS.SU returns to the EATBRAIN label in full force, following up his ‘Underground Culture’ label anthem and State of Mind Collaboration ‘Chariots’ with his first full EP – SOLAR ECLIPSE. From the eerie and suspenseful atmosphere of the title track in collaboration with label core JADE & MINDSCAPE, to the driven filth of THE LAST LAUGH, wrapped in the sinister lyrics of NUKLEAR, through to the shimmering but powerful sci-fi aesthetics of THE ARROW, Chris.SU delivers a pure slice of heaviness for one of dnb’s most vibe-laden imprints.
