Berlin’s Dina Summer (@dinasummer) announce their long-awaited debut album Rimini as they drop the title track and lead single on Audiolith (@audiolith).

Dina Summer is a collaborative project of producer Kalipo (@kalipo-1)and DJ-producer couple Local Suicide (@localsuicide). Local Suicide is Greek native Dina P., one of the first female DJs in Thessaloniki before moving to Berlin, where she met her husband and the other half of Local Suicide. The powerhouse couple made a name for themselves releasing music on labels such as Eskimo Recordings, Lumière Noire and Ombra and have played a crucial part in the rise of the dark disco scene.

Meanwhile, Kalipo recently released his critically acclaimed fourth long player on KI Records and is part of the electro-punk band Frittenbude. Here he brings techno undertones to this unique project. Since 2019 the trio have been working together on a special blend of late 90’s electro with elements of 80’s disco and new wave. Their first EP on Iptamenos Discos received widespread praise and received massive support from German radio alongside plays from The Hacker, Digitalism, and Arnaud Rebotini.

This distinctive new album’s sound comes from two synthesisers and one microphone. Pounding disco beats under rattling bass sequences. It's a sound with roots in Italo disco classics, new wave and punk combined with electroclash of the noughties but now ready for summer 2022 from the beach to the club.

Edgy beats meet striking melodies as perfectly poppy hooks are carried by Dina's unique voice on cuts like 'Mars', and fast, urgent grooves like 'Uranos' offer up fine synth craft. 'Revenge' blends cold revenge fantasies with an 80's inspired electro-pop sound reminiscent of feel-good movies of the era without falling into cliché. 'Zig Zag' races on rugged but colourful disco drums, and 'Mirage' has an intoxicating synth lead with flashes of cosmic brilliance.

'Wunderbar' is a heavy, off-balance stomper with German vocals and warped synths, and the majestic 'Amore' twitches your synapse with its pixelated synths and fast bass. 'Crocodile' is a giant disco pumper with edgy synth and vocal energy. The final and title track conjures up lazy summer vibes on a synthesiser amongst the palm leaves, with Dina's beguiling vocals adding extra escapist magic.
With this brilliant new album, Dina Summer breaks with conventions and catapults us directly into a new decade of dark disco. The album will be available from 15th July with lead single ‘Rimini’ out now.

After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’ last week, ‘Vermillion’ is the lead single for the forthcoming album from Damian Lazarus & the Ancient Moons. Channelling the magic of those hazy, sunrise parties Vermillion captures the globe-trotting influences of Damian Lazarus’s new album.

Transported to glistening new realms, the bubbling deep house rolls beneath the revelatory soul of LA singer-songwriter and guitarist Moses Sumney, is the first of two appearances from the singer on the forthcoming album ‘Message from the Other Side’. Released on 27th April, ‘Vermillion’ lands with an inter-stellar remix package. French techno connoisseur Agoria leads us on a minimal, spaced out trip through shining synths and swift vocal echoes. Acclaimed house maverick and Hot Creations head honcho Jamie Jones has been closing his DJ sets for the last few weeks with his own remix. Its bouncing, old school house tip bounding beneath bright gospel turns of phrase, approaching near classic status with arms aloft receptions on the dancefloor. And finally Berlin’s Deniz Kurtel, who pulls her penchant for polyrhythmic percussion to the fore, casting sweet tribal grooves across an original surely destined to become a dancefloor anthem this summer.

“There is nothing that compares to DJing under the stars,” Lazarus explains. “In the night air or being responsible for soundtracking the rising of the sun and I wanted to create an album that reflects these beautiful moments.”

A career spent DJing across the globe was the catalyst for Lazarus’s latest project – Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons. Co-produced by James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco, the new album brings together an assortment of vocalists, collaborators and players from around the world, all taking inspiration from his Lazpod series, Get Lost events and Day Zero festival in Mexico.
