We are honored and excited to present the album ‘Drum’n Voice Remixed’ by the legend Billy Cobham in collaboration with Italian’s finest music producers and composers Novecento. 

The internationally renowned drumming virtuoso, percussionist, composer Billy Cobham, has dedicated his whole life to musical exploration and creative expression. Born in Panama,  he has been surrounded by music. His father was a pianist, his mother was a singer and Billy started playing drums at four years old.  Throughout his career he has collaborated with artists like Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Airto Moreira, George Benson and appeared on over 300 recordings, including icons like Peter Gabriel, Quincy Jones, Jack Bruce, Bob Weir, and James Brown, and to date, has produced and released more than forty albums as a leader. Acclaimed as jazz-rock fusion's greatest drummer, Cobham’s dramatic, explosive power mixed with emotional spontaneity, extraordinary dexterity, and complex style of play brought him global attention and critical acclaim.  The first album ‘Spectrum’ is a masterpiece and still considered a reference album today. 

‘Drum’N Voice’ is a collaborative project with the Nicolosi family, known collectively as Novecento. After reaching the top of the European and American charts with their Italo Disco hits, they decided to explore new ideas and evolve their music leading to a jazz and ambient territory and collaborating with some incredible artists. The album, recorded between Milan, London, Los Angeles and New York, also feature collaborations with incredible artists like Eumir Deodato, Stanley Jordan, Frank Gambale, Gregg Kofi Brown, George Duke, Brian Auger, Bob Mintzer. Billy delivers an amazing creativity and listening experience that unveils its unique style in playing drums and percussions. 

The first part include two strong reworks.  Boris Dlugosch & Cassara are responsible of a stellar rework of ‘Over’ infusing that funky disco energy with their irresistible groove, a driving bassline leading to a breakdown to die for. Mark E goes deeper on ‘Sensations’ taking us on a journey. The swinging percussion,  the acid synth and the celestial jazzy sax create a perfect atmosphere.

Sticky Tapes is a seasonal mixtape series. Four times a year we ask our favourite selectors to compile a mixtape in the ambiance of the seasons.
Second in the series are two young boys from Delft, that provide us with some much needed musical relief in these times of isolation. Starting off the journey with hopeful sounds, depicting a bright future of togetherness. From there on, they guide us towards the sweaty and dark basements of the world, filled with repetitive, machine-like sounds, that we all already miss so much. Enjoy!

Sticky Tapes 2 - Winter - Pokko Elective

A few years back, my friend Otis did a mixtape called ‘a time for peace’. It’s an effortless mix of melodic & vocally driven music which became a source of some of my favourite records that I was yet to discover. There was never a tracklist for it, but over the years, have found them serendipitously in record shops and had a few joyful moments when finally the needle drops on one of the tracks from this mix!
The past week has given me an opportunity to reflect on some of the records that I return to constantly, can get lost in & consider something else for a while. I hope that perhaps someone out there might find something in here that opens their ears to something new, can get lost in and one day have that needle drop moment too! Thanks to everyone who put me onto these records in one way or another.

Dialogue Between Dreamers Pt. One

A blooming spring selection that slowly evolves into a fittingly uplifting soundtrack for the season and may also serve as a welcome change of tone during these strange days of corona-induced isolation. 

As tradition of this series dictates this episode, again, takes its time to calmly drip, doze and drift through an extensive ambient section before slowly moving on to more colorful pastures: Psychedelic folk and roadtrippy pop, followed by a brief latin section that paves the way to more uplifting and lighthearted territories, which evolve and escalate into classic disco, soul and funk throughout the rest of the remaining odd 2 hours before finding an ending in one of my last year's favorites: Justine's "Wordless Songs EP". Probably out of place in this setting, but a great closer regardless.

From his studio retreat in the heart of the Norwegian forest, Raaja Bones astral projects to a distant paradise, glancing the frosty tips of Norwegian fir trees on his way to exotic locations. 

Trading the Scandinavian fjord for a beach in Miami, Raaja finds a bounce in his step, moonwalking his way across groovy keys and shuffling beats through Boardwalks. A sonic palette echoing with the reverberations of bygone days, playing on a collective nostalgia, a Kodak moment turned gif, frozen on a telephone screen. 

Hazy chords and playful melodies glisten against temperate rhythmical zones as they roll through the arrangement. Disembodied vocals float in a steamy fog above warm tones, as Raaja’s voice passes through the record like a spectral dream. A rusty vignette forms within crystalline tones as bold synthesizers are coerced into reluctant musical forms, ambling through cheery earworms and rousing rubber bass-lines.
