For episode 033 we are really taking it back, 1992 when this came out, which seriously deserves a WTF!. Always remember borrowing it off my uncle around 1994. To this day he never got it back. (Hey, it's the only disc I officially didn't return, I was 14 ffs). But I had an excuse, 6 mini mixes of rave, hardcore and techno goodness that blew your mind. Carl Cox, Slipmatt & Lime, SL2, Krome & Time, Two Little Boys... each one battling against each other for rave greatness. The space sample, the Sesame Street sample, the Bubble Bobble sample, so many great moments and thats just 3. PLAY IT LOUD!

Is there anything better than a DJ that can work a floor and has the time of their life doing it? Perhaps the best thing about @billy-daniel-bunter is how much he bloody loves raving — a joyous character in a culture of DJing that often takes itself too seriously, he’s been instrumental in the UK rave scene. Over the past 26 years, the walking rave encyclopedia and self-described ‘full time piss head’ hasn't necessarily been heralded by the mainstream music press, but has nonetheless made an indelible mark on UK dance culture. A permanent fixture at all manner of mass parties — the likes of Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, and Rezurection — Bunter’s been there right from the start and continues to crop up at the UK’s biggest underground events. Mumdance recently booked him for a Different Circles night, requesting he drop some ‘93/’94 hardcore “on the right side of happy”. Drawing for ‘92/’93 old school piano rarities on this Clash mix, he’s dug deep in that crate for a choice selection of jungle, acid, hard house and hardcore gems — and we can promise that it's essential listening.

I'm not sure which one this was, because Carl Cox played at a few Rezerection raves in Edinburgh in 92, but if it was the famous 'Castle' one in May, then i was at that party with 5000 other lunatics. It sounds very familiar so i have a feeling that it's the same one.
Amazing DJ is Carl Cox! Even then, he was at the top of his game. He used to be nicknamed 'The 3-deck Wizard' because he was one of the first to do that. 
When he first came to KL to play Movement Club in 2000, he had lost none of his passion. A typical image of Coxy DJing is this huge hulk of a black guy swaying and bopping and dancing all over the shop behind the decks. Sweating profusely every time!
Always enjoying himself as much, if not more than the crowd who are going bananas to his music!
He plays a totally different style now, but back in the day he was one of my favourites.

Oldskool Hardcore Rave (4/10) - 28-12-19

The idea behind my page is to log and showcase the music that has influenced me over the last 35+ years so that my daughter, Ebony, can listen to ‘olden day’ music and hopefully appreciate how good we had it. 

Having learnt my craft in the late 80’s at the age of 12 and teaching myself how to beat match on 1200’s within a week, I felt I had a knack for this DJ’ing thing way before it became fashionable. I would class myself as quite a versatile DJ able to lend my hand to most genres. Hopefully all those years of bedroom mixing and house parties have paid off…but that’s up to you to decide. 

I attempt to capture a constant energy in my mixes regardless of genre and am always a firm believer that the mix is as important as the track itself. I endeavour to create seamless transitions whilst maintaining the energy. During longer mixes a welcome switch in style is sometimes required. In fact different genres warrant different styles of mixing, in my opinion. And monotonous sets do nothing for me. Up and down, peaks and troughs, it’s all about building the listener up and letting them down gently.

Never one to choose tracks based on their popularity or current chart position, I hand pick the tunes I mix because I think they’ll stand the test of time. The idea being that during any of my sets I can pick a point and know I’ll dig that track or mix. Although digitally digging isn’t as rewarding as finding physical vinyl records for me, it is a whole lot easier. That said there are a lot of below par tunes out there to sift through before finding worthy tracks. Then the set process begins…I just approach it as a musical jigsaw.

Anyway, enough about me. Whether you’re getting ready to go out for the night, cleaning the kitchen or in the car, turn it up, get in the groove and I hope you enjoy the vibes  😎
