Gimme A Break Records presents Donsurf’s ‘BREAKWAVE EP’ out on June 4th 2021. Donsurf took the scene by storm through his widely received debut release on ec2a in collaboration with Bakey. Following this, Donsurf has continued to deliver experimental breakbeat and UK garage productions as seen through single releases on Gimme A Break and Kultura Collective. In his ‘BREAKWAVE EP’ Donsurf divulges the breadth of his musical influences some of which include dubstep, breakbeat and jungle. The deliberately smooth transitions between tracks makes for a seamless journey through UK bass culture, grounded fundamentally through Donsurf’s intricate manipulation and sculpting of classic breaks with a personal twist.

It’s time for GAB’s 42nd guest mix and this Sunday we are massively hyped to welcome A For Alpha onto the series. Cutting her teeth in the garage scene under her former alias ‘A-Bee’, A For Alpha has established herself as one of the UK’s leading connoisseurs in 2-step and speed garage. Recently, Electronic Beats TV have recognised and celebrated A For Alpha’s expansive knowledge by inviting her onto their Blind Test series. 

However, the Bristolian’s collection is in no way restricted, as shown through her monthly residency on SWU FM which often features House, Techno and Hip Hop. As well as this, A For Alpha is heavily inspired by the sounds of early Hardcore, Rave and Jungle choosing to drop an hour of Jungle gems in her GAB guest mix. Expect delicate pads, chopped breaks and haunting vocals as A For Alpha journeys from ambient Jungle to system-shaking Amens, encapsulating the sound of the 90s.

Stepping up for Gimme A Break’s second original EP is multi-genre DJ and producer, Scart Lead, originally from the North West and now based in London. Through his releases on Subtle Records, Outhouse Sounds, LDH Records and Slippery Sounds, Scart Lead has revealed the strong influence of oldskool rave and hip-hop on his production style. Following a melancholic and moody UKG opener, the sinister mood of Scart Lead’s ‘Wheelin N’ Dealin'’ EP builds through vicious breakbeats and a dubstep-influenced finale. GAB would like to say an enormous thank you to Alex Kubis for coming through with this unbelievable artwork reflecting Scart Lead’s passion for 90s rave art.
