Lucent makes a hat trick of appearances on the label with another funky flip, this time of Plastician and Skepta’s Dubstep classic ‘Intensive Snare’. Following on from his flips of Sir Spyro’s ‘Topper Top’ Ft Teddy Bruckshot (RIP), Lady Chann and Killa P as well as Pa Salieu’s and BackRoad Gee’s 2020 hit ‘My Family’ Lucent has quickly made himself a staple of the Free DL series.

For some reason in the ever thriving UK scene we don’t seem to come across too many producers from Merseyside but one thats been a consistent staple across the Bass & UK Funky scene in the last few years is Lucent. Coming up to nearly a decade in the game he is regularly affiliated with the likes of Hot Cakes and Durkle Disco as well as the infamous but now redundant Trouble & Bass (USA) along with Tumble Audio and Roska Kicks And Snares. Releases across these labels have seen him work with AC Slater, Dread MC and more recently SB:TV’s critically acclaimed Buggsy.

There’s been work with other 1Forty artists also with the likes of Fish and Shantie. Being the stand out UK Funky producer that he is, it’s no surprise that regular support comes from the likes of Marcus Nasty, DJ Pioneer, Roska, Yung Singh and even Tensnake which led to shows across the north at the likes of Hangar 34 (Liverpool), Night Kitchen (Sheffield) to further down the country at The Club (formerly The Irish Centre, Nottingham), the infamous Motion (Bristol) and Lightbox (London).

The second producer on this project to get his debut 1Forty release is On1. LOCKT (1Forty Founder) met the Birmingham born producer at Rinse FM where the two were both appearing on Marcus Nasty’s show. From then On1 kept in touch sending promos and once he had something that seemed a good fit for the label a demo ensued which was accepted at the first time of asking. ‘Ris Key’ takes inspiration from early Grime instrumentals, focusing on nostalgic sounds whilst creating space within the track to create more emphasis for the MC on sets.

On1 has begun to make a name for himself in the UKG scene over the past year due to his unique and moody productions. Taking a lot of inspiration from the likes of El-B, Zed Bias and Skream in the period where UK Garage was progressively getting darker and in turn creating dubstep. Five years after he started taking producing much more seriously he’s now supported two out of the three as well as Plastician who you could argue was amongst that transition, and Zed has supported his productions along with other tastemakers such as Conducta and Jossy Mitsu.

Focusing a lot on self releases and even vinyl releases, On1 the London based producer has released on a lot the most renowned UKG labels in the underground such as Gather, Downplay and Strictly Flava linking up with the likes of other 1Forty featured artists Shantie, Dizzle Kid and Kobe JT as well as ZeroFG and Soundboy Cookie who are also making strong moves in the scene right now. The end of 2020 see’s On1 making his debut release on 1Forty to end the year with a bang.
