Waiting On You

Hey fam! My album is out today, and I wanted to give a bit of backstory and context...

2020 shattered me as a person. In addition to the pandemic, I lost a relationship that I once held dear, I was broke and in between jobs while trying to afford school, and I found myself hospitalized for my mental health for the first time. It took a long time to put the pieces of myself back together.

This album is about my journey towards rediscovering myself as a person and as a musician during that 4 year rebuilding process. It is raw, emotional, and honest. It is about the pain and grief I went through, but more importantly it is about truly connecting with my inner strength and about forging myself into a being that is stronger, more resilient, and more beautiful.
 
Without further ado, I present to you "Find You." I am proud of myself for creating this music and doing all of the engineering on the album. And I am proud of myself for being vulnerable enough to share it with all of you.
 
I hope it resonates deeply with you. Enjoy!

PROJET "ÉCHAP"

On se trouve dans les années 90. Échap gagne son argent de poche en aidant sa mère ouvrière à assembler des composants électriques. Il termine son lycée. L’atelier est à la maison. La paye est au rendement. La machine de sertissage est dans la cave. C’est exiguë, il fait froid. L’air est saturé de particules cuivrées, les gestes sont mécaniques. Pour passer le temps, une télé à tube cathodique déverse son flot d’images de mauvaise qualité. 

Les voix résonnent, se déforment au contact de l’architecture précaire de la pièce. Les paroles sont entrecoupées par les bruits du compresseur et la saturation de la visseuse. De l’autre côté de la porte, la colère gronde. Depuis le licenciement de son père par l’entreprise locale de bâtiment, rien ne va plus. La cellule familiale implose. Dans des moments d’épuisement, alors que son corps est devenu une machine comme une autre, l’esprit abruti d’Échap se laisse porter par l’agencement sonore. Du chaos ambiant, des bouts de partitions se déposent anarchiquement dans sa mémoire. 

Des années plus tard, durant ses études, il en retrouvera les échos dans des musiques aussi diverses que l’électro, le free jazz, le punk ou la musique contemporaine. Dans des espaces aussi éclectiques que les free party, les squats ou des temples religieux à l’autre bout du monde. Mais à ce stade, son projet musical est en latence. Il a besoin de se confronter au réel. Échap enchaîne les expériences : sociales, culturelles et humanitaires. Il travaille en tant qu’enseignant dans un quartier populaire, il réalise des films documentaires sur des thèmes engagés (migration, féminisme, etc.)

Quelle que soit les milieux traversés, les personnes rencontrées, il ressent les mêmes sentiments d’injustice, les mêmes difficultés sociales, les mêmes discriminations, le même besoin de révolte contre les systèmes politiques et économiques qui nous gouvernent. Il veut s’en faire le témoin, mettre en musique cette colère et agencer ces fragments de partition qui saturent sa mémoire. Il s’entoure de machines, de pads et de potentiomètre et commence à assembler ses propres pièces sonores. 

Le projet « Échap » est né.
