Net Neutrality is internet service providers giving all information sources equal speed, equal protection. Losing net neutrality means ISPs give bandwidth priority to sources they prefer (ie. sources which pay them the most, Rothschilds, Bilderberg, the 1%, Big Brother) and it may mean your ISP charging you more for you to use your favorite sites, so loss of net neutrality promotes corporate/ISP media bias which undermines free speech and promotes censorship.

I can sympathize with liberty-defending free-marketeers and occasionally even defend corporate rights, but if you trust AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile, and Verizon with more power to decide who sees what, you're not paying attention.

And don't buy the bullshit about Google and Facebook giving a fuck about you. The only reason they defend net neutrality is because they use the most bandwidth and don't want to be slowed down or undermined by ISPs who hate them for censoring rights activists and bending over backwards for Big Brother's Orwellian mass surveillance state. Unfortunately, ISPs who would penalize Oggle and Fascistbook are small and few and can't compete with global bankster billionaires, so the few possible benefits of ditching net neutrality are virtually non-existent.

If you want your internet to upload and download as fast as Bill Gates', you want net neutrality. If you want to destroy free speech, let the fascists off the leash.

As concerns continue to be raised over the potetial threat to internet neutrality posed by Facebook's aggressive roll-out of its Internet.org platform, South African telecoms operator, Telkom is proving that the public's growing distrust of big tech firms is not unfounded.

Large tech firms seem only too happy to test limits of what is ethically acceptable in terms of violating personal privacy, while capitalising on the lack of consensus around what constitutes internet neutrality.

Little fuss has so far been made over Telkom's recent employment of tactics that would generally be associated with illicit hacking syndicates, following the telecoms giant being caught adding JavaScript to web pages of its ISP clients via a "man-in-the-middle attack".

In this week's discussion, Tefo Mohapi and I discuss this unsettling development. Given how we cannot seem to trust big tech interests to behave ethically by defending our right to privacy and security, is internet regulation the answer?

Snowden Documents Reveal AT&T’s "Extreme Willingness to Help" NSA Domestic Spy Program

We used to say "seeing is believing"; now googling is believing. With 24/7 access to nearly all of the world's information at our fingertips, we no longer trek to the library or the encyclopedia shelf in search of answers. We just open our browsers, type in a few keywords and wait for the information to come to us. Indeed, the Internet has revolutionized the way we learn and know, as well as how we interact with each other. And yet this explosion of technological innovation has also produced a curious paradox: even as we know more, we seem to understand less. While a wealth of literature has been devoted to life with the Internet, the deep philosophical implications of this seismic shift have not been properly explored until now. Demonstrating that knowledge based on reason plays an essential role in society and that there is much more to &#8220;knowing&#8221; than just acquiring information, leading philosopher Michael Patrick Lynch shows how our digital way of life makes us overvalue some ways of processing information over others, and thus risks distorting what it means to be human. With far-reaching implications, Lynch's argument charts a path from Plato's cave to Shannon's mathematical theory of information to Google Glass, illustrating that technology itself isn't the problem, nor is it the solution. Instead, it will be the way in which we adapt our minds to these new tools that will ultimately decide whether or not the "Internet of Things"&#8212;all those gadgets on our wrists, in our pockets and on our laps&#8212;will be a net gain for humanity. For many years now, we have warned the citizens of the world about the threats that government pose to the freedoms of the internet. Over this period of time many people have woken up to the lies told by government officials and now understand the importance of keeping the internet open and free for all to use.   The events that have transpired over the recent days have proven, indisputably, that the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom are trying with all effort possible to monitor the internet. You might ask us, if not to fight terrorism, what are they looking for? The governments of the world are corrupted to the core, by greed and lust, intoxicated by power, they fear losing this power to the people. Let us look at this secret spy system: Prism, and its apparent effectiveness. It has failed to stop terrorism, but has succeeded in monitoring everyone in the world, even law abiding citizens. It is true that there are evil people in this world who must be watched to ensure the safety of others, but it is simply immoral and unethical to blanket monitor everyone worldwide, assuming that everyone must be guilty of something.   Edward Snowden is a true hero of the people worldwide for revealing this. In stepping forward to bring us the horrifying truth about the draconian state secretly operating, he has put his life on the line, he has given up his job with the government, he has lost his family and loved ones, he now risks extradition and life sentencing to prison, merely for telling us that each and every one of us is being watched, monitored, documented, recorded and categorized.  The fact that companies like Microsoft, Facebook and Google are involved, means that a significant amount of the internet as we know it is under inspection. The right to privacy has been violated. People are in greater danger from this surveillance system than they are from terrorism, because the terrorists have not been stopped.   What we are witnessing, is the hand of the government, and corporate greed, extending over the internet.   A smear campaign is beginning against Snowden now. This is to be expected. When government is threatened with the loss of power or control, they will use any means required to ensure that the view of the public supports them, instead of the evidence which has come to light. This is done through the media, already they are calling Edward Snowden a traitor, a supporter of terrorism or even just creating doubt over his motives, these are common methods seen used against every person who has ever revealed the truth against the state.  The corporations which have been revealed as taking part in PRISM are now also scrambling to defend their names, releasing so called information on why their user's privacy is important. You must ask yourself, if they had done nothing wrong, they would not go to such extreme lengths to change public perception. It is up to us, the people to see through these lies being told. We must stand with Edward Snowden, and fight back on all fronts against the big brother state.   Many say they have nothing to hide. But this is beside the point. If you have nothing to hide, why should you be watched? If someone broke into your home and read through your documents and private data, you would feel violated and angered. Why should your digital information be exempt from this? The only difference with online spying is that you remain unaware that it is happening; otherwise you would become just as angered towards it. And this is why governments fight to keep us from knowing the truth. You only have to scratch the surface before the lies become visible.   Citizens of the world, users of the internet. Show your support for support for Edward Snowden, Edward Snowden is now under the protection of anonymous worldwide. We are all Edward Snowden now. We urge you to remain peaceful, but to rise, now is the time to say enough. We call for massive disobedience towards the big brother state. We invite you to be Anonymous, we must act together worldwide for the cause of internet privacy. Anonymous has no leader, no ranking and no single means of communication; we are spread of many mediums and languages. There are 18,000 state and local law enforcement agencies, with more than 1 million full-time officers and 100,000 part-time employees, plus undercovers and informants. The are 90,000 local governments in America. From 2004 to 2008, full-time employment by state and local law enforcement agencies increased by 57,000.  Sworn personnel increased by 33,000. Nonsworn personnel by 24,000. In 1992 to 2008, the growth rate for civilian personnel was double that of sworn personnel. Tyrants all.
