This playlist tells the story of The Punisher's origins.

The Punisher’s origin was revealed in 1975 in Marvel Preview #2, by Punisher co-creator Gerry Conway. Francis Castiglion, U.S. Marine, changed his name to Frank Castle so he could illegally return to the Vietnam War for a 3rd tour of duty. Castle eventually reunited with his wife Maria and their children, Lisa and Frank Jr.. During a family outing to Central Park, the Castles accidentally witnessed organized criminals killing a snitch. They turned their guns on Castle’s family to silence them. Only Castle survived. The Punisher

"Gloomy Sunday" is a song composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933, as "Vége a világnak" ("End of the world"). Lyrics were written by László Jávor, and in his version the song was retitled "Szomorú vasárnap" (Hungarian pronunciation ("Sad Sunday"). The song was first recorded in Hungarian by Pál Kalmár in 1935."

"Gloomy Sunday" was first recorded in English by Hal Kemp in 1936, with lyrics by Sam M. Lewis,[2] and was recorded the same year by Paul Robeson, with lyrics by Desmond Carter. It became well known throughout much of the English-speaking world after the release of a version by Billie Holiday in 1941. Lewis's lyrics referred to suicide, and the record label described it as the "Hungarian Suicide Song". There is a recurring urban legend that claims that many people committed suicide with this song playing."

Retired First Sergeant Robert G. "Bob" Lay was a staff sergeant in 1966 who could pick a guitar. He kept hearing the Army Special Forces staff sergeant named Barry Sadler singing "The Ballad of the Green Berets" and wondered why the Corps didn't have a song.

So he wrote one. In fact, he wrote two: “The Marine's Ballad" and "Make a Marine." Although they were not chart busters, they were popular with the leathernecks and have been re-released several times over the years. If "The Marine's Ballad" sounds a little familiar, that’s because it was (with permission) to the tune of Johnny Horton's "Sink the Bismarck."

Nothing fancy here. Just good gung-ho music. If you want your own copy of the songs, 1stSgt Lay plans on having a website up and running soon. "McCarthy on Trumanism" is a recording of a radio broadcast within which Senator Joseph McCarthy makes accusations regarding former president Harry S Truman. In this program McCarthy also discusses the spies he discovered working at U.S. Army's top-secret radar research laboratories at Camp Evans, Fort Monmouth. Originally broadcast on November 24, 1953. Program running time: 29:20.

(NOTE: At 13:45 into the program, McCarthy begins discussion of his investigation of Joseph Levitsky and others he accused of making attempts to get people employed at the Signal Corps laboratories at Camp Evans to provide information to the Communists.)

RESTORATION WORK:

The 7-1/2 i.p.s. half-track reel-to-reel tape was digitized at 44.1 kHz, 16 bits, monaural.

The tape had possibly been recorded from a transcription disc as there were numerous clicks and pops in the recording. Restoration included removal of most of the more prominent clicks and pops while leaving all other elements of the original recording, including coughs, breath sounds and paper noises unmodified. The audio levels varied substantially in a few places within the tape recording; after digitization levels were adjusted to maintain better consistency within each program element.
