We noticed your car reg is Soul music themed. What does Soul mean to you? 
A: Soul is my essence, it’s something I consume, it’s also something that I share through how I play music as a DJ. 
Where does your passion for music come from? 
A: Pretty much due to my early discovery that music is my go to place regardless of my state of mind, I can be sad, happy, ecstatic, spiritual etc but can always find a track to suit a mood or traverse between different mind states 😊
How long have you been DJ’ing and what are the special moments that stand out for you?
A: Been in the game since the mid 90s, my fondest memories are my first residency, my first music festival gig, Guest DJ-ing B2B with my brother from another Craig Smith to name a few. 
Your record collection is vast and so is your musical knowledge, what does vinyl mean to you and can you pick out a couple of special records that are close to your heart? 
A: In my mind nothing compares to that vinyl sound that’s all, although I have come to appreciate the benefits of digital age DJ-ing for instance not needing to log 2-3 boxes of records to gigs 😊 How do you feel about the music scene today? 
A: I think there is more fluidity across types of music available, but frankly speaking the scene in Scotland where I have resided since 2001 is not as vibrant as it used to be and also less clubbing venues particularly in Edinburgh. 
Any advice for up and coming DJ’s and producers who want to get into the game? 
A: Never compromise, always play music you truly feel resonates with you and your soul and find a way to connect with the audience on that basis!

Twisted 004: Turn out the lights

Rising producer Acitone steps into the spotlight with his latest track  “Emerge” (catalogue RC018) on the forward-thinking label Rhythm Cult. Founded in 2014, Rhythm Cult has become a vital platform for cutting-edge dance music. 

Acitone’s track lands firmly in the club realm, and is already earning support from legends such as Laurent Garnier and Radio Slave. His loyalty to the scene shows too, he’s been attending Passenger since its inception, now turning up on the production side. “Emerge” marks the next chapter for Acitone, inviting you to join the journey.
