Poetry as an echological survival (Porto)

Recordings of airplanes taking off and landing at Lisbon's Airport, averaging two minutes between each, as influxes of mass tourism saturated the city during 2019. Close to the airport there are several public parks where monk parakeets nest—a bird species endemic to South America that was brought to Europe as an exotic pet, and has now introduced itself in feral form around several European Cities. Considered an invasive alien species, the parakeets' loud song fills the air in Lisbon, competing alone with the extreme loud noise of the Great Beasts of Gravity bringing tourists in and out of town.

Recorded September 2017 in the National Gardens, Athens, Greece. Joggers running through the park and passers-by strolling around are accompanied by the constant city traffic hum at the distance, and the loud chirping of Monk Parakeets as they return to their nests, at the end of the day. At irregular intervals, cicadas join in.

Recorded early morning in mid-December below the canopy of tall cedars where Monk parakeets nest at Paseo del Prado, one of Madrid's most congested and main traffic accessways.
