Flash Flood

Recently after acquiring a Moog Little Phatty from their friend (and sucker) Jeff Pavelec, Alex Chase and James "Doozer" Cello began experimenting with the powerful synth finding new sound design capabilities previously unattainable on any other keyboard they had access to.  This composition featuring Doozer on the bass and Moog and Alex Chase on drums was recorded on March 21, 2009 in the Michigan House in Lawrence, KS.  This brief snippet remains the pinnacle of those early exploratory sessions.

The Koskies were an incredible psychedlic, blues-rock outfit based out of Lawrence, KS featuring Max Yoder on guitar and vocals, Ben Goering on drums, Rolf Petermann on saxophone and Daniel Barkofske on bass.  They entered the Michigan House studios on November 16, 2008 to record the selected track among others.  Shortly after the final mixes were mastered, they were featured on 90.7 KJHK to wide acclaim.

This is an incredible treat.  "Gold" is one of a few tracks Manchild would occasionally perform live yet the song never made it onto their limited release demo or their 2009 debut album.  This stripped down demo recorded on May 14, 2007 shows John and Doozer at their best.

It is quite possible this is the only live recording of this song that exists.  This song was performed about an hour and a half into a 2 hour long set at one of many house parties at the Michigan House on August 10th, 2008.  Tommy would only play this song live when under a dramatic state of inebriation, however that is often when Manchild performed their best.  Just thought I should add, this is a Jimi Hendrix cover.
