Melbourne-based, UK-born Jack Rayner, aka Hedchef, is back on Ecke Records for a 4-track EP, with collaborations and remixes in equal abundance. He was first welcomed to the label via his electro scorcher ‘Solid Lobster Exoskeleton’ on our Various Artists release ‘Friends of Ecke’ (FOE101) back in 2021.

For this instalment, he leads proceedings with an absolutely pumping 4-tracker, presenting broken-beat electro, four-to-the-floor moments and 2-steps - melancholic bass-rave meets throbbing euphoria; raw power with added introspection.

Featuring collabs with electro-bass connoisseurs Doctor Jeep and Desinformant, with remixes from Hermeth and Ecke Records’ own production duo Squallfront.

Opener 'Could We Not Have Asked For A Smaller Void?' is a locked-groove broken beat melter, merging dramatic claps, whirring synth accents and an insistent, bleepy earworm motif to form an unorthodox yet dancefloor-ready DJ tool.

Hedchef joins forces with Brazil-born, Melbourne-based electro scientist Desinformant for the devastating breakbeat slammer 'Aiming For Oblivion' - strap in for disjointed vocal chops, space-age synth work and unrelenting bass pressure.

New York's notorious BPM cowboy Doctor Jeep works with Hedchef once again for 'Orders Of Magnitude'. Following on from the pair's collaborations on the Doctor's 'Deep Red' EP which dropped on Worst Behaviour Records earlier in the year, the energy is cranked up for an energetic bass-techno banger with unpredictable sound design switches and full-pelt kick drum assaults throughout.

Closing off the original cuts, 'The Presence Of A Gaping Hole' is a futuristic club weapon of two halves, opening with melancholic pads and gritty percussive rhythms before melting into a spacey and atmospheric four-to-the-floor pulse.

Ecke Records kingpins Squallfront take on the opening track for the first of two remixes, taking the catchy groove and screeching accents of the original and adding grime-tinged rhythmic switches, old skool electro fuzz and a chunky broken-beat throb.

Closing off the EP is an abrasive and uncompromising interpretation of 'Aiming For Oblivion' by electro-punk hero Hermeth, who twists the track into his signature distorted style with polymetric vocal hits and club-ready breakbeat force.
