'Power Bossa' is the introduction to Fab Samperi's definition of a boombastic jazz style. Fearlessly and creatively picking up inspiration from the golden decades of classic rhythm & blues, latin, hip-hop and soul Sicily's most prolific producer releases his first full album:
'Power Bossa' and what a powerful statement it really is. Fab Samperi recorded the album in as many as six countries. While kicking off with 'In The River', playlisted on the BBC and sealed by Craig Charles featuring the man Samperi himself on flute (yes, he is a well-studied multi-instrumentalist playing keyboards, drums, guitars and brass!) the mighty John Turrell from Newcastle England puts his distinctive northern soul voice on 'Everyman'. Samperi's close connection to Smoove & Turrell is no coincidence. With their organic approach to the music they love this is a natural connection. Bella Wagner from Vienna, vocalist on 'Stand Back', already recorded with Patrick Pulsinger and Bahama Soul Club. Jonnathan Molina on the other hand is a new face on the block. His voice for 'Listen Up' keeps the fire burning with an authentic soul twist.
'Red Bossa' is a liaison with Mattew Rasbash aka Spasmo, an English producer with an incredible knowledge of cinematic jazz, dramatic bossa and obscure jazz-rock. Holding the pace but adding a breathless rap flavour to 'Brand New Day' Joelistics aka Joel Ma of the Australian TZU crew takes us back to the age when hip-hop was what it all was about: lyrical vitality, an open mind and pure energy. The instrumental version of 'Alcoholic Drinks' is a trip way back into Fab Samperi's history, but it still sounds fresh today. It blends nicely into 'Jazz Di Mezzaluna', an authentic piece of Mediterranean Jazz featuring a solo by Andrea Beneventano, one of the national top players on the piano. Rounding up this jazz intermezzo on 'Power Bossa' is 'Spaghetti Samba', Samperi's early single on Record Kicks featuring the vocals of Igor Gazatti aka Zion from Recife in Brazil. Soul brother John Turrell makes his return on 'Heaven Sent', again this was recorded with Smoove at his Ashbrooke Castle studios in downtown Newcastle.
'BB Funk' kicks in with a haunting bass line courtesy of the man Fab Samperi himself: 'People think there is a lot of sampling in my music, but it is not. This bassline, for example, was played and written completely by myself.' And while Samperi is not only an expert musician himself, he is also busy remixing tunes for other artists. The French freakbeat of 'Papillonne Sur Moi' is an example of his recent output, commissioned by fellow Italians Montefiori Cocktail & In-Grid.
Closing the album Samperi reunites with Andrew Donikian aka Diamond Poet and revives the Outbound era with 'When I Wake Up.' The music may have evolved since then, but the message in Fab Samperi's music has not: 'The message behind it is that I believe in a multicultural world, where people can live their lives in peace, with no racism, and no war.' This statement is as simple as it is true: Peace, love, unity and having bossa!

Three mixes to choose from of this belter from Croatia's Vladimic Sivc - better known as Funky Destination, in which guise he's released seven albums in the past 10 years. In its Original form, 'The Soulway Players' has male gospel backing vox, diva shouts namechecking Memphis, New Orleans, Chicago and New York, and most importantly a sense of repressed energy - like the club's gonna go crazy any second now, which means it'll be a great set-builder. The Extended Mix gives the fuzz guitar more room to breathe while Louie's House Mix sticks a 4/4 kick underneath, but in pleasingly subtle fashion.

The latest release from "Matasuna Records" is the result of a transatlantic connection between the USA and Germany, whose common denominator is the love for Brazilian music. The journey started 17 years ago when the German musical duo "Dubben" got in touch with the late American musician "Victor Meshkovsky". Almost two decades later, the Dubben interpretations of two songs that he once released with his band "Made in Brasil" on his own "Nucleus" label are now available! The second Dubben 7-inch on Matasuna features their great versions of the songs "Grilos Cantam Para Anamaria" and "One Two-Two" with a captivating vocal contribution by singer "María del Rossario". The 7-inch includes an inlay with detailed liner notes by Dubben about the background of this release.

When Victor heard about Dubben's intention to reinterpret his version of the "Marcos Valle" classic Grilos Cantam Para Anamaria, he immediately loved the idea. This version is raw and funky, according to the original plan, with "Christina Joy's" original vocals isolated from the 1975 album. Bassist "MC Scholze" lifts the down-to-earth chord changes up into souljazz territories, while the typical ingredients of the Dubben sound – brass and percussion feeding tape delays and spring reverb chambers – happily groove along.

Originally a psyched-out proggy-ish Brasil track, Dubben takes Victor's composition "One Two-Two", puts it in a box and sends it to Colombia. Of course, the parcel gets stuck on its way, much to the delight of the audience. A slow Cumbia burner with 100% organic ingredients: straight bass drum, fender bass, springy guitars, a detuned Italian organ and tons of improvised percussion, performed and recorded by the band themselves. Finally, "María del Rossario's" vocal contribution, in both English and Spanish, is more than just the icing on the cake - it's the Latin soul of the track. ¡Un dos-dos!

"Victor Meshkovsky" (*1938 Shanghai; ✝2017 San Francisco) was an entrepreneur, painter, dancer, producer/founder of "Nucleus Records", and gifted drummer/percussionist who dedicated his life to the arts. While his role as drummer/percussionist for his friend, organ genius "Walter Wanderley", might be not that well known, his self-produced and self-released albums with his band "Made In Brasil" (not to be confused with the other "Made In Brasil") have become undisputed classics among music lovers, collectors and DJs. Label boss Angelos Stoumpos aka Timewarp inc is back with a new single. My Belly Dream is a small draft music idea that was composed around fifteen years ago and has been found somewhere in his dusted archives! 

After a few sessions in the studio the song was re-constructed from scratch, and here we get an afro-funk based disco-boogie groove. Timewarp played, performed and recorded all the keyboards on his Hammond & Rhodes until the song reached that unique boogie disco feeling. 

Special shout out to Aris Kokou and Bongo Loco aka Cosmic Yum for their groovy contribution on the Congas and Bongos accordingly! 

My Belly Dream is presented in two versions, original & beats mix.
