Maeve 09 is a special record. It welcomes the return of one of the founding members of the label, Baikal. Although the Dutchman has had somewhat of a hiatus from releasing music, his hard work and struggle with the process of creating forward thinking electronic music has always continued. “Pelican’s Flight” reaps the rewards of this carefully nurtured process and proves most definitely it was worth the wait.

The title track “Pelican’s Flight” is a mesmerizing ten-minute techno trip. A throbbing kick drum is decorated with sparkling synth lines all moving on their own orbit creating a trance like effect on the dance floor. The pinnacle of the trip hears rasping chords blast through the swell in a glorious moment of elation; in short this is a bomb.

The B-side “All Forces Occur In Pairs” goes deeper again, drawing the listener into a similar hypnotic state. Various sonic ideas breathe in and out of the foreground creating a swirl of expectancy and excitement. This track will cause you to close your eyes and be carried away to another dimension…

It's deep, brooding and features a gnarly set of stabbing piano chords. The riffs are warped and the horns are super menacing making this perfect if you want a DJ tool that packs something completely different. Expect to hear this a lot this summer.

Animal Trainer - RAYAAN

Adrian Flavor and Samy Jackson are Animal Trainer (@animaltrainer), a dynamic duo whose unique brand of ‘slow rave’ has captured the imaginations of countless electronic music lovers. With releases on labels like Stil Vor Talent, Katermukke, Get Physical, Mobilee and Poker Flat, it’s clear they have found the right audience for their brand of party music.

The Rayaan release features two perfect encapsulations of their craft. 'Rayaan' is a vibey, atmoshoperic tech house burner, slowly building over its duration, layering synths, pads and killer melodic hooks over an irresistible groove.

'Yao' also has a similar hedonistic vibe, with a killer percussion from the get go, slowly adding some deeper, ravey elements as the track unfolds. It’s party music for the discerning dancefloors, and sure to make its mark at some of the more off the hook locations over the next weeks and months.

Animal Trainer - Rayaan

Dutch duo Abstract Division (aka Paul Boex and Dave Miller) present ‘Aftermath EP’, a four track package due *release date* on the eponymous imprint from Milan based collective Just This. Featured in the release are remixes from Peter Van Hoesen and VRIL. 
Title track is a subtle dancefloor killer with funky cyclic rhythms and peculiar harmonies, followed by ‘Isolated’, a subdued yet dizzying dose of syncopated drums and crystalline melodic inflections. 
For his interpretation of ‘Isolated’, VRIL mutates the stripped back hypnotism of the original into a maximal, angular workout, whilst Peter Van Hoesen focuses on the dizzying loops of the original, repurposing them into an immersive spiral of funk driven techno. 
‘Aftermath EP’ fuses elements of ambient and soulful techno for an understated but powerful package.
