Despite being a small town in Norway surrounded by seven mountains, the Hall of Fame of Bergen is home to many world famous names including Edvard Grieg, Erlend Øye and Röyksopp. It’s also home to Made In Sane, an enigmatic duo with a passion for all things analogue and Eighties. They also have a knack for melody, as they display in their enchanting debut Flying Circuits.

Remixes come from Man Power and Mørkeby. Not much is known about Man Power. We know the mysterious whizz kid lives in Europe and he has a release coming up on John Talabot’s Hivern Discs... Second remix comes from Mørkeby, yet another Norwegian disco talent we can add to the Eskimo list next to Prins Thomas, Todd Terje and Lindstrøm.
 
Flying Circuits is taken from The Pink Collection, the first installment in a brand new Eskimo compilation series. Out now.

Amsterdam based label, store, and distribution outlet Bordello A Parigi have been on fire lately, and they’re gearing up to release another excellent project with newcomers Mytron & Ofofo. Like the rest of the Bordello catalog, M&O’s debut is a sweet exploration into funk, italo, and disco. The A1, “Aircraft One,” is an absolute heater, and kicks off with an appropriate sample of a plane taking off. As soon as we’re airborne, we’re hit in the face with a heavy rolling bassline that drives the track into trippier territory, a place where searing, brassy synth stabs compliment keyboard flourishes and authoritative vocal shouts that scream for all to “get up!” FYI, if you weren’t up already there’s something wrong with you!

“Aircraft One” is a versatile track that would work well in disco, house, or more afro centric sets. The rest of the EP takes on a more organic, tropical tone, but continues to press the consistent Bordello A Parigi themes of wonky basslines and heavy synth melodies. Futhermore, this is an impressive debut from a duo we know little about. We will certainly be keeping an eye on Mytron & Ofofo’s next projects as we slowly rinse the Aircraft One EP to death. As for Bordello, the formula remains the same, and you’d be amiss to not keep tabs on a label that’s proven to be consistent A&R’s of unique and talented producers.

Music pieces by Russian duo * The Cruising * (* Yula Vovk and * Sergei Demidov* ) are not that easy to identify, both style and time-wise. Funky vibes of the 1970s and 1980s are generously mixed with techno and peppered with unconventional live instruments, vocals, and flirting with rock and roll. Throw in ambitions of new genre creators, and you get a fantastic creature, a techno-funky-rock unicorn. The _Wise And Weird_ EP features four of the duo’s original versions ranging from groovy indie dance to funky techno to acid house. Nottingham dons * Coyote* (* Is It Balearic?* ) turn in a lovely laid back tripped out remix from deep within their Balearic realm.

Since debuting on the label in May 2017, East London duo Earthboogie has been part of the extended Leng family. In that time, Izak Gray and Nicola Robinson have delivered a swathe of superb singles and a fine debut album, 2018’s critically acclaimed Human Call. Here they present their sole single of 2019, a two-track fusion of intergalactic, terrestrial and tribal elements reflective of their by-now trademark style.

Fittingly, lead cut “Creepy Steve” – a previously unheard workout recorded during the sessions for Human Call – contains many of the musical ingredients that made Earthboogie such an enticing proposition. It boasts a raw, fuzzy and driving analogue bassline, densely layered tribal percussion, dub disco-influenced guitars, woozy electronics and sporadic blasts of African style chanting. As if that wasn’t enough to get the blood pumping, Gray and Robinson have also thrown in some extended, rock style guitar solos and more cowbells, bongos and timbales than you can shake a stick at

It comes accompanied by a previously unheard remix of “Human Call”, the title track from their superb debut album, by friend and fellow musical fusionist Joel Harrison. His version is warm, woozy, driving and percussive, brilliantly re-imagining Earthboogie’s original version as a supersonic slab of peak-time ready deep house. The band’s original chanted vocals, guitars and melodies slowly rise above bustling, all-action drums, weighty bass, alien-sounding electronic flourishes, poignant trumpet parts and seriously dreamy sustained chords.

eclectics is an independent record label & collective that is interested in what connects things rather than what divides them, be that music or people.

The collective, which began in 2015, has many facets to it, but the ethos behind it all is inclusiveness and creativity. The label launched in 2017 and with 22 EP’s released to date, plus a compilation and a number of edits, they’ve collaborated with some amazing artists over the years and have lots of exciting new projects in the pipeline.
