Waajeed’s 2022 long player, Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz, was an aural love letter to his hometown of Detroit; an amalgam of the city’s history, coalescing the personal, political and, of course, musical past.

From the Motown soul assembly line to J Dilla’s musically dense Hip-Hop to The Stooges’ proto-Punk to the birth of Techno, the music of the Motor City has spread across the globe inspiring countless artists who in turn went on to create their own forms and genres.

Emulating this movement and transmutation, the Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz remixes 12” sees artists from three continents repurpose elements from across the LP, transforming them into productions stamped with their own trademark styles whilst retaining the spirit of each original:

the UK’s Mark Broom loops sections of Right Now while speeding up the BPM for a classic UK-style techno remix; Ghana-born Yazzus takes on The Ballad of Robert O’Bryant adding a surprising number of twists and turns for a five-and-a-half-minute piece; Australians Jensen Interceptor and Assembler Code close the 12” out with their take on the album’s title and opening track neatly closing the loop, bringing us full circle to the start of the LP.

The release of Memoirs…remixes add another facet to the immensely heartfelt tribute to Detroit from one of its most talented citizens and a true milestone in the Tresor catalogue.

Due to a „military special operation“ RNBWS was forced to turn his back on his adopted home Moscow for now and found a new home in Istanbul. The puls of this vibrant metropole at the Bosporus provided the creative energy for RFR 024.
„Finest Gear“? Hell yeah! This track is for all of those, who are grinding Diablo 4 hardcore at the moment and need an additional motivation boost. Stomping techno, Psytrance and Goa elements are the vital items for this build, which is 100% suitable for endgame.
 „Freedom is A Choice“ should pull every UK hardcore lover’s grin up to their temples. Oldschool breakbeats straight outta the warehouse, dusty and and dry as a bone, refined with a Prodigy melody, that Liam Howlett could not have composed any better. Absolutely massive track here!
We stay in the Oldschool. „LXTC“ pays homage to genre defining artist of the 80s and 90s. Whoever’s got shivers running down their spine whilst thinking of Drexciya, Egyptian Lover or Cybonix - you came to the right place. A masterfully crafted piece of Electro.
As it befits, everything is getting „Out Of Control“ at the end. RNBWS’s definition of Ghetto Tech hands it on a plate and leaves us hungry for what we can expect from him in the future. This might be his strongest EP until to date.

Gimme A Break delve into new sonic territories through the first release on their sub-label Aspect, an outlet for Electro, Prog House, Trance and Techno. ASPCT001 sees Berlin-based LUZ1E navigate mental health and healing at the sonic intersection of Detroit, Chicago, New York and the UK. With previous releases on Voitax, International Chrome and Mechatronica, LUZ1E’s “Cerulean” EP cements her place as a pioneer of Electro retrofuturism. 

“Cerulean” takes its inspiration from the very hue that has ingrained itself as one of the symbolic images of LUZ1E’s work – a particular nuance of blue. It emanates a synchrony of sentiments: clarity, optimism, and calm, juxtaposed against the backdrop of detachment and despair that accompanied the artist throughout the past year.

Manifested in a dichotomy, the Ultramarine A-Side delves into the labyrinth of one's own mental health. It casts a luminescence upon a profound struggle marked by inner discord, turmoil, and the swift currents of overwhelm and emotional detachment. The tracks' fast pace and sombre energy pick up on this, translating phases of introspection and intense inner conflict into a sonorous narrative.

The Cerulean B-Side breathes the ambiance of a crystalline winter day, bathed in ease and tranquillity, constructing a bridge to an inward journey where in a quiet and soft space healing can take place. The tracks, suffused with both hope and melancholy, radiate a sense of peace, calm, and lucidity, contrasting the tumultuous phases of ebb and flow and the sensation of feeling lost. What persists is a mere feeling of peace with the perpetual motion of life itself.

Campbell Henderson is a Sydney-based artist, photographer, and designer, as well ascurating and directing at Sydney Art Collective. These covers are inspired by Sol Lewitt, mass spectrography, Walter Russell, and subatomic particles, and crystallisation.

Eclecticism is defined by a broad range of sources and ideas, and this series is built on a broad range of ideas applied to a very narrow premise. The artworks put eclectic’s iconography under a microscope, growing and expanding into a form akin to a bismuth crystal. Each phase represents a further magnification, clarifying and changing the initial perception as it develops, but never deviating from its original signifiers.
