Sounds of Ostrom - ABAT #13 - The founder of one of our favourite underground labels - Eclypse. Our friend, family and a huge support to the Ostrom team since day one. We give a warm welcome to Abat and his devilish  podcast - that sounds like it could be straight outta hell. In his own words Abat introduces himself to you. I've been an avid fan of extreme music genres ever since I was 12, and my journey still continues to this day. Techno is another chapter in my life that I have embraced as it currently represents me the most.I love listening to Black and Death Metal such as Emperor, Anaal Nathrakh, Nile, MGLA, Aosoth, Batushka, Immortal, Death and many many more. Besides this music genre, I've been into hip-hop and stil am (I have Kanye West's name tatted on my neck for those that did not understand what the "YE" means.) Other avant-garde/industrial/experimental/jazz/trip hip-hop acts that I really enjoy are Clouddead, Death Grips, MF Doom, Dalek, Portishead, IC3PEAK, Syringe/Sybyr, Nujabes, etc.In terms of electronic music, besides Techno I really like NOISE (the Japanese style such as Merzbow), Dark Ambient, Horrorcore, Synthwave, City Pop, Dream Pop, Gabber, Acid, Psy Trance and the list continues.For Bochka/Industrial - the artists and projects that inspire me the most are Embalmer, MenaceAnnihilation, Draag, MMCCCXCIX, UH, Dietrich, Parapher, CEKTA. In terms of projects, I can't express into words how much I appreciate the work of NYPRA, 96NOISIA, SUNTHOID, MOSARV, SURAM FORTRESS, 565R, EKIP, DOLIUM, BARRIKADEBOCHKA, OSTROM, OVERDOSE, SANKTUM.LAUT, CHALLENGINGSTATUSQUO, VIXLATIXN, OBST, URAL HARD KICKS and much much more. The local scene in Romania is close to non existent in terms of Industrial or even Bochka, but I'm trying my best to put our small little country on the map with the help of a couple talented people here that trust and believe in my vision. One of my biggest dreams is that I can put our small little country on the map of Industrial Techno one day, and people will recognize us more for the work that we are doing here. 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄
CSQ: Tell us a bit about your local techno scene. How has it shaped you as an artist?

A2XBY: I live in The Netherlands, a small country, which has one of the biggest hard techno scenes in the world. There are multiple raves every weekend. In October 2021, I went for the first time to a rave. At first, I felt a little uneasy and overwhelmed - also because I am always sober - but in the end, I was completely impressed. I loved the boost in energy that the loud music gave me and the amazing laser light show... just wow. In February 2022, I went to Rotterdam Rave for the first time. This event really enhanced my love for techno, and I started going to raves almost every week, yes, sober. After visiting a new underground rave concept in 2022, I discovered my true music preference: industrial techno. It was from that point that I started to realise what aspects of techno I liked and didn’t like, and that sparked my creativity to create my own style. It all started in the beginning of 2023. I released a few tracks, and they were very well received. It was indescribable to hear my songs in real life at raves. Towards the end of 2023, I received unexpectedly a big booking, so that is what started me working as a producer and DJ.

CSQ: Would you like to share anything with the listeners about the set?

A2XBY: This is the first podcast where I’ve tried to keep the energy up the whole time. I do this by having as few breaks as possible and layering many kicks on top of each other.
I try to create a storyline - just like my productions. During the set, the music becomes more and more intense and dark. I’m starting with Bochka and working towards industrial techno. I only use tracks that fit my style and of course there are also some songs of my own.

CSQ: How does the set reflect the development of your style and your DJing since you started?

A2XBY: When I started to DJ my style was non-existent, it was mostly drop, break, drop, break. But after a few months of hard practice, I discovered what my style is: I start at Bochka and gradually work towards the hardest side of Industrial Techno. 
Nowadays, I am focused on making my podcasts feel like stories with constant high energy, and I fill them with the hardest tracks of the industrial scene.

Hey, I’m U/R, a producer/dj from The Netherlands. I started my musical journey a couple of years ago, trying out multiple genres/styles of techno, but I quickly found love in the harder, more ‘underground’ side of techno. First it was all about producing but the love for the music also lead me into dj’ing and creating my own mixes. Through my sets I want to shine a light on the more underground producers and let the world know that it doesn’s always needs enless amounts of rave stabs, huge drops, or that it has to go harder, faster or more distorted to be a good mix.
