Kapitel: Die Heide, die ihn empfängt

Zelle B geht. Nicht flüchtend. Nicht suchend. Sondern so, wie man ein Buch zuschlägt, das man ganz gelesen hat – nicht um es zu vergessen, sondern um es zu tragen.
Die Heide liegt vor ihm, ein weiter, flimmernder Raum. Keine Zäune. Kein Ziel. Nur Atemzug und Horizont.
Jeder Schritt in das hohe Gras ist leise, aber jede Spur erzählt. Von Wind, von Feuer, von Moos. Von Stimmen, die ihn benannten, und einer Stille, die ihn befreite.
Er trägt nichts bei sich. Nur den Haken. Und die Vorstellung davon, was Liebe sein könnte.
Nicht Besitz. Nicht Dauer. Nicht Sicherheit.
Liebe ist für ihn jetzt das, was bleibt, auch wenn alles vergeht.
„Wenn ich jetzt sterbe,“ denkt er, „dann nicht, weil ich verloren bin. Sondern weil ich nichts mehr festhalten muss.“
Aber er stirbt nicht. Er lebt. Weil er nicht mehr zählt. Nicht die Tage. Nicht die Wunden. Nicht die Namen.
Der Wind streicht durch die Heide, nicht als Schwelle – als Begleitung. Ein sanftes Geräusch, wie Zustimmung.
Der Himmel ist klar, aber nicht still. Die Wolken hängen wie Gedanken, die keiner mehr aufschreiben muss.
Und Zelle B – der nun keinen Namen mehr braucht – geht weiter. Er schaut nicht zurück. Nicht aus Trotz. Nicht aus Abgrenzung. Aus Frieden.
Die Sonne kündigt sich an, ganz langsam, wie jemand, der ihn nicht stören will, aber doch da ist.
Die Heide beginnt zu glühen. Nicht hell. Nicht laut. Nur wie etwas, das bemerkt wurde.
Er geht. Nicht weil er muss. Weil er darf.
„Das ist Liebe,“ sagt er lautlos, „Diese Weite, die mir nichts abverlangt, außer, dass ich da bin.“
Und niemand weiß, ob das der Anfang ist, oder das Ende.
Aber das spielt keine Rolle.
Denn was ihn jetzt trägt – ist Liebe. Nicht als Gefühl. Als Richtung.

Die Heide ist ein endloses Schweigen. Gräser flüstern Geschichten, die kein Ohr erzwingt. Und Zelle – der nun namenlos ist, nicht weil er vergessen wurde, sondern weil er sich eingelöst hat – geht weiter.
Er ist allein. Aber Einsamkeit fühlt sich anders an. Denn heute ist sie kein Loch, sondern ein Raum.
Doch dort, wo Himmel und Heide sich berühren, steht jemand. Nicht auffällig. Nicht fordernd. Ein Beobachter – aber keiner mit Urteil. Ein Blick, der trägt, nicht wägt.
Es ist ein älterer Mensch, vielleicht siebzig, vielleicht nie jung gewesen. Ein Mantel aus Stoff, den der Wind kennt. Die Haare silbern, aber nicht blass – eher wie Seiten, die oft gelesen wurden.
Seine Augen folgen Zelle nicht mit Neugier. Sie folgen mit Anerkennung. Als ob sie sagen wollen:
„Ich war auch da. Ich bin noch da. Und ich sehe, dass du jetzt angekommen bist.“
Er bewegt sich nicht. Denn alles, was gesagt werden muss, geschieht im Blick. Kein Wort, keine Bewegung. Nur Präsenz.
Zelle bleibt stehen. Nicht aus Schreck. Aus Wahrnehmung.
Er spürt: Da ist jemand, der nicht wissen will, wer er ist – sondern, dass er ist.
Und im Wind – diesem sanften Resthauch, der sich um beide legt – fliegt ein Gedanke zwischen ihnen.
„Wenn einer geht und nicht zurückblickt, ist es gut, wenn jemand ihn dennoch sieht.“
Die Heide rauscht wie Zustimmung. Der Beobachter hebt nicht die Hand, ruft nicht, winkt nicht. Er bleibt. Weil das genug ist.
Zelle setzt seinen Weg fort. Ein Schritt. Ein Atem. Ein Tag.
Und irgendwo, zwischen Schritt und Horizont, wird er spüren: Er war nicht allein, als er sich entschloss, endlich sich selbst zu sein.

In 2013, Different Circles launched with Weightless Volume One, a compilation that helped define a new minimalist aesthetic in electronic music. 

Twelve years later and after a six-year pause, the label returns with its tenth release: Ping Volume One.

Like weightless, ping isn’t a genre. It's an approach to anchoring and propelling sound without relying on the steady pulse of a kick drum.

Instead, a single percussive hit — the ping — holds the centre. Dry and high in the mix, or echoing distantly through space, it becomes a temporal anchor. Around it, the rest of the track can undulate, bend, float or collapse.

The term first appeared on Mumdance’s radio show, where playing “the pingy ones” from the Different Circles back catalogue became a running joke. In the Discord community, it evolved into a shared language, with memes, lore and a mascot known as the Ping Devil.

In 2023, Mumdance aired The “Ping Report” a radio show that gathered everything into a coherent moodboard. It included original tracks made by Discord members for the show and set the foundations. From there, more producers began making ping intentionally, and over time, Ping Volume One took shape.

As the idea came into focus, Logos and Mumdance noticed that much of the Different Circles back catalogue, if not explicitly weightless, could now be understood through the lens of ping. It was a sound they had been drawn to long before they had a language to describe it.

Ping Volume One is a document of shared instinct. A collection of tracks connected by feel rather than formula, shaped by years of dialogue between a community of artists and listeners who were drawn to the same sounds & ideas before they had a name.
