This is my version of 'We Got The Power' by The Kids From Fame. I love this song. I loved the  original when I was growing up...I still love it and it's now my absoloute favourite running/gym song! 
I really wanted to get to the spirit of the song but I don't have access to the brillkiant musicians who played on the original. But I've kept it fast and funky...but I've added a peppering of pyshedelia on the chrus. Hope you like it!

This track is based around the cosmic sounds from an old 80s casio, combined with some primitive guitar riffs. The track is all about a feeling of bloody-minded confidence.

Himalayan

This track is inspired by Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan.
It's one of my favourite songs in the world. If you listen carefully to this track you can just about hear the melody for the first line of Tambourine Man in there. It describes the cosmic feeling of freedom and escape in the wonderful verse that has the line 'dance beneathe the diamond sky'. Hence the title. :)

This is a feel good track inspired by a moments of wonder and surprise- the things that make you go 'Oh My'.

Oh My

This is my version of Syd Barrett’s song ‘Opel’.
It’s a mysterious sad song with extraordinary imagery of a faraway desolate beach.
I play it on 12 string on a tuning I stumbled across: EBBEBB.
Syd’s songs are really irregular- lines of different lengths and phrasing that you feel were just how he did it that day. I continue with this approach, messing with the song quite a lot.

Opel

This is my version of You in the Sky by the Waterboys, combined with my poem 'Moon Sisters'. 
Both the poem and the song are all about distance and longing so I've been performing them together. I think they work together really well and I think this is one of the best things I've ever recorded.

This is a musical version of the title poem from my book 'We The Wild Ones'. I've turned it into a song. It's played on guitarlele, harmonium and has lots of whistling on it. 
The recording is very inspired by the album 'Ram' by Paul McCartney.

We The Wild Ones

This is my version of The Kids from Fame's fabulous track. 
It's a track I loved as a child and rediscovered as an adult runner! The production and emotion on the original track is just brilliant. I've kind of de-constructed the song- I can't possibly compete with the production on the original. It's become a kind of funky acoustic track- lots of wacka wacka 12 string guitar:)

We Got The Power

This is my version of 'Starmaker' perhaps the most famous Kids from Fame Song. It's a big, sad, song and I think I've made it even sadder, in an uplifting sort of way.

This is a happy pop song, reassuring someone how fabulous they are, and not to let anyone stop them enjoying Spring. 
You can play with the Spring Lions...I think they are safe!
This song is came to me unusually quickly, Spring is in the air...I breathed it in and turned it into a song!

Spring Lions

This is a musical version of a poem from my book 'Me and my Alien Friend'. It's a favourite from my school visits.

Fun Run

This song is all about visiting the wild mountainous countryside of Wales for the first time as a child. It's pretty heavily influenced by Astral Weeks era Van Morrison.

Summer EP

Stars Behind Stars

This is a simple song about the joy of Spring coming along. Full of pictures of Spring in suburbia and finding cosmic wonder in every day things. 
I was heavily into Woody Guthrie when I wrote this so I took his advice and kept it really simple- it's all G, Em and D chords- and you can get away without the Em. :)

Jungles and Stars

This a joyous but defiant song telling someone how fabulous  they are- and how the Spring Lions are out there by the river, waking up  ready to play with them.

This is my son's mix of my song 'Spring Lions' that I've already put out. His mix much better and brighter than mine.

All about when the snow falls in Hastings. Recorded live in the kitchen last night. Also doing this song with the choir at West Rise Junior School (with new words from the children)

Snow day

This version is very exciting to me as it features not only wonderful soaring fiddle playing from Harriet Wilder but Jason Wilson from James Hunter's band playing delicious Astral Weeks bass and Victoria Howarth as a choir of angels swooping around between the stars. Initially recorded several years ago by Dan Jefferies. I dug it out and added a bit of drum and organ....I think it's a bit dreamy...A musical version of the beginning of my 'Railway Enthusiast' Book where a little boy visits the welsh countryside for the first time. 

The Sky so Full of Stars Finished, done, full Sound

This short instrumental came about after reading a poem by my friend Richard Evans: 'The News' from his collection 'Things You Don't Know About You'. The title comes from that poem.
The title also fits as I'm working on my own short collection of poems about birds. I really like this short, sweet instrumental.

Barefoot into Birdsong

This is the one and only thing I've ever made to do with football. I don't have much interest in the game at all...but I was really moved by how great the England team was in the last World Cup, both on and off the pitch. This little instrumental came about after Eric Dier's magnificent penalty.

This track is the theme to my story 'The Ruddy Useless Fisherman'. I began doing a complete audio version of the story. I never finished the whole piece but I really like this dreamy theme.

Night lion soundtrack

I am an artist, writer and musician from Hastings, UK.  I make slightly wonky acoustic folk-pop, often with unusual guitar tunings.
I record my own songs, musical versions of my own poetry and poems by my favourite poets such as Rilke and Yeats. Lately I've been singing less and doing lots of instrumentals. At the moment I'm inspired a lot by 1980s indie acoustic music especially Felt and The Lilac Time.
