I think it's a big leap forward for me, both with the writing and recording.
I've blended highly crafted story-songs with the creative playfulness of mid-’60s psychedelia. 

Songs like Castle of Light explore some of the anxieties and cynicism of the modern world, but hope shines through in tracks like No Enemy Outside. 

I recorded it in my shed and have filled it with the warm tones of old Casio keyboards, the sparkle of 12 string guitars, harmonium drones and poetic words. Wonders and Sighs is a homemade musical world you can get lost in.

It's a song about someone who spent years full of hate. When the hate fades they feel empty, because all that hating had kept them entertained. But, in the song the scary emptiness the person feels is beautiful and full of possibilities.
This 'big' version has layered harmoniums, guitars, harmonicas, layered vocals, drums and digital stuff. 
The other 'small' version is just two guitars, vocals, slapped knees, and a blackbird singing.

This is my 'small' gentle version of my song 'No Enemy'. It's got just two guitars, vocals, slapped knees, and a blackbird singing.

Candy Apple Girl

I stumbled across an uninhabited white mansion when I was out for a run in the countryside. I got chatting to the security guard looking after it, who let me look round the grounds. He told me a ballet dancer once lived there. I made up a song about the ballet dancer. 
I ended up pouring a lot of my anxieties into the story of poor dancer- they have ended up being a horrendous mix of my personal and political fears. 
I think this song is kind of fantastically ridiculous- an OTT 10 minute epic, with a whole horror-theme 2 minute instrumental at the end. I love it.

A song for my wife! Our story from Hull to the back of the moon, in a few short verses. Having loads of fun on my little Casio on this one.

Echoes of resilience

An Irish slow air recorded once through on my phone in a practice session. A historical, political story from 1798. I’m playing on my Dad’s fiddle. The photo and river are from my walk home from work - I was feeling elemental today.

Here's my version of this classic Irish ballad. Mclhatton was an old fiddler who knew how to make an excellent Poitin, the ancestor of whiskey. When the valley where he lived filled with buyers of his fine liquor, many tried to capture him, but he knew how to hide well and was never caught. Enjoy my track and share! CIAO

"Hello Sun!" featuring Christen Cooper is part of a 12 songs album called "MOC Mixtape" to benefit Musicians On Call.

I’m a big fan of Musicians On Call and the work they do to bring live bedside performances to hospital patients. Earlier this year, I thought an album of original music would be a cool way to honor and celebrate their effort.

The result is “MOC Mixtape”. The songs were selected as something you might hear at a Musicians On Call shift: bright, uplifting, positive, supportive. All revenue from “MOC Mixtape” goes directly to Musicians On Call to help continue their mission.

I am an artist, writer and musician from Hastings, UK.  I make slightly wonky acoustic folk-pop, often with unusual guitar tunings, along with instrumentals that mix acoustic and electronic textures. 

Musically my current obsession is Judee Sill.
