Dans ce nouvel épisode de Moins Vite Plus Loin, j'invite mon ami et complice Guillaume Le Roux. On s'est rencontrés il y a quelques années via le producteur et DJ Sneaker que j'avais invité à La Java à l'époque. Guillaume et moi on a vite matché, unis par un intérêt fort pour des choses relativement disparates, comme les voyages, la bonne bouffe et la musique électronique avec une dimension psychédélique, qu'elle soit ambient ou club. Guillaume tient d'ailleurs un site qui regroupe ces trois pilliers, ça s'appelle 716lavie et je vous recommande fortement de le consulter, c'est devenu ma bible pour trouver des tables intéressantes à Paris ainsi que des mixes qui sortent du carcan club habituel.
Pour ce mix, on s'est dit qu'on allait explorer notre amour pour la musique ambient, ascendant chill out, en incorporant aussi des éléments tirés de l'ethno-ambient. Plutôt que de faire une heure chacun, on a fait une heure à quatre mains. On a voulu raconter une histoire et vous emmener dans un voyage plein de contrastes, avec des voix et des personnages différents. On a pris un soin particulier à la séquence des morceaux en prêtant attention à la tonalité de chaque track et en jouant sur les qualités harmoniques des morceaux dans les transitions. On a ajouté quelques voix issues d'un disque à Guillaume, une leçon de dactylographie québécoise et on a rigolé en se rendant compte que notre dernier morceau est Les Quatre Saisons, mais on l'assume totalement dans cette version filtrée et réverbérée par mes soins.

Ed Isar is a DJ and label manager from Paris. He’s a resident on Rinse FR and co-label manager of Musique Pour La Danse, a label devoted to reissuing forgotten and unforgettable music, with recent reissues such as Spacetime Continuum, Threshold HouseBoys Choir, Detroit Escalator Co. along with compilations such as Bleeps, Breaks + Bass or DJ Athome’s spaced out. He’s also behind the edit imprint Tursiops.
Ed has multiple influences and interests, from ambient and experimental music, to slower cosmic vibes and pitched down trance, various downtempo and balearic vibes, but also early rave, house, techno, breaks, progressive, trance and anything in between. From 70 to 140 BPM, he knows no boundaries and enjoys connecting the dots between different scenes in the last 40 years of electronic music.
He loves playing long sets where he can explore all these vibes and get inspiration from how the audience reacts. This is the full recording of a set he played in Grenoble in January 2023 at the great non-profit run venue La Bobine. It was his first set in a few months, and his first long session in a while, so he was delighted to explore all these vibes and to play with and for such a great audience.

No offense intended to anyone, but in my opinion, the track is perfect as it is and any modification would spoil the original's amazing vibe. 

I just slowed down from 160 to 130, simulating the 45 to 33RPM effect. It works great in my sets. Try it out!

On January 19 2018, I played all night long on Concrete's amazing WOODFLOOR. 

It was an epic 8 hour adventure, probably my favorite DJ experience in a club.

I have almost 7 hours recorded, but Soundcloud does not love long sets so here is part 1 of 2, the first half of the night. 

No edits to the recording, no mastering, just the set as it is.

Once again, a huge thanks to the crowd, it was the perfect mix of friends, fans and randoms, energy levels were high and I had some really uplifting interactions with the dancers! And a shout out to Brice for the invitation and to the whole team at Concrete.

Your perception of time changes when you are playing all night long and didn't  immediately realize I was already halfway through the night by the end of part 1. The crowd was full of energy and the opposite of picky so I decided to have fun with them with several peak time moods I'm into and to end on a high note, it was such an amazing experience <3

Here's the set I played at 33RPM party #43, which was the release party of Front de Cadeaux's terrific dissociative hit, La Kétamine.

A set (and a night) where everything was played at 33RPM. Mostly vinyl with some of my own digital edits. A lot of personal classics and a bunch of recent finds.

First time playing on the mighty SP3 rotary mixer, it's lovely, I still wanted to try a few cheeky cuts, I'm definitely more of a fader DJ.

This week we're going to Goa, with one of my favourite Astral Projection tunes slowed down to 98 BPM for extended cosmic euphoria.

Here's a slow version of a tune by The Grid - a duo consisting of Dave Ball (formerly of Soft Cell, probably my favourite UK synth pop duo) and Richard Norris. 

The tune makes me think of the euphoric energy of a night somewhere in the Great British north, so I slowed it down to make its rhythmic section even deeper and more sensual. With its groove and iconic samples it's a guaranteed floor burner on its own and I think several sections of the tune lend themselves well to creative layering with other records.

Back on the edits, here is a 95 BPM version of a beautiful jazzy / early elegant techno tune by the genius Rembert de Smet. 

It was hidden on the producer's anthology we released at Musique Pour La Danse in 2015, it only took me 4 years to realize how amazing this tune and the other Sleepwalker tracks on this release are. You can check out that release on our Bandcamp by the way!

I noticed you guys really enjoy slow trance edits! 

So, here's a fresh one. Slow trance vibes, a balearic sensibility and Indian vocal samples.

The original is on the flipside of the brilliant Art of Trance's Octopus on the wonderful UK label Platipus which in its early days was effortlessly bridging the gap between a more house / techno sound and the golden years of good trance with a foot in Goa but most importantly with its own identity. Anyone interested in this sound should absolutely check out more music by this artist and the label.

Originally released in 1979, Patrick Hernandez's Born To Be Alive is undoubtedly one of the biggest global disco hits to have come from Europe. I remember loving it as a kid after hearing it on the TV one day. In France it's one of those unavoidable tunes at weddings or on oldies radios but arguably one of the best in that wedding banger subgenre.

It's really a hi-nrg tune, but with the genre's masculine / muscly / gay element  toned down. 

As you might know, there is a famous tourist site called the Trocadero in Paris. As you also might know, there was a famous underground hi-nrg club in San Francisco called Trocadero Transfer, which was notoriously one of hi-nrg pioneer Patrick Cowley's stomping grounds. So I wonder, did either Patrick know about each other's existence? Would they get along?

While I wait for an answer, I decided to slow Born To Be Alive to a sensual 98 BPM. As usual, everything becomes quite erotic and if you close your eyes, it's not hard to imagine an entire dancefloor of leather and muscles vibing to the tune in slow motion. That's Lo-NRG for you, baby.

I also warped the tune so that you will be able to mix it and beatmatch it. Super limited DL.

Patrick Hernandez - Born To Be Alive (Ed Isar 98 BPM Trocadero Patrick edit)

It's probably one of my favourite dance tracks and non-Goa trance tunes of all time, a German trance tune by the same people behind Perry & Rhodan.  This tune from 91 spread like wildfire in the European underground, with releases and licenses on Rising High, Harthouse and more. 

It's one of those tunes that instantly makes the hair on my skin rise when I play it, it's sensual, groovy, hedonistic and psychedelic. I have never got bored of it and each and every time I play, people go crazy for it.

Slowed down at 98 BPM to the let the lysergic elements take hold of your body, mind and soul for your extended pleasure.

Dali's Car were Bauhaus' singer + Japan's bass player. They released an amazing LP in 1984 which I first heard about two days ago. This is probably my favourite cut on the album so I made a DJ friendly edit, even though it's not really a dance track. 100 free downloads, grab it while it lasts.

Where to start? The year is 1990. The locale is Italy. The European techno-trance wave is in full swing, built on the foundations of New Beat, with Frankfurt, Valencia, Goa and the Italian riviera as hotspots for this new sound created by blue-eyed producers in the four corners of the Old World.

A few producers linked to the wonderful & influential label DFC release music under the name ATAHUALPA. The influences are Latin, and Inca to be more precise. After all, Atahualpa was the last Inca emperor, executed by the Conquistadors. Weird flex ragazzi, but OK. 

Anyways, I have always loved this tune. It's got everything I love. Early trance arpeggios which are a reminder of the link between Hi-NRG, EBM, New Beat and the T word. Cheeky pan-pipe melodies. Breakbeat loops. Spanish vocals. Early 90s cultural naivety. And a lead keyboard sound that feels like a harpsichord. I fucking love harpsichords.

I love playing this tune when it's the least expected. It sounds even better given the slow treatment. So I sure hope you will vibe with it as much as I do.

Atahualpa - Ultimo Imperio (Ed Isar 100 BPM edit)

Today we released on Musique Pour La Danse a remastered version of a now legendary set played by the acid wunderkind Voiron at the iconic Weather Festival in Paris in June 2015. https://mentalgroove.bandcamp.com/album/voiron-live-weather-2015

Anyways, in it there is one of my all time favourite Voiron tracks. I just had to make a DJ friendly, club ready edit for me and for other people to play because it's the kind of tune I want to hear every single time I'm playing or out raving. Here it is. If it doesn't provoke some kind of reaction in you, check your pulse, you might be dead.
