Category 4 is a monthly broadcast concept from Michael Brunner [ @four4 ] for Great Circles Radio.

Each episode is broken into four segments, which are connected in some fashion, but routinely unique in many others. This allows for the drawing of comparisons between otherwise disparate concepts, while simultaneously creating enough creative restrictions to focus the musical selections.

Myles Sergé is a low flying techno producer, hard working label head and old school DJ, however he prefers the term ‘reclusive perfectionist’. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Myles experienced a temporary sojourn to the beachside of the the UK’s Brighton before relocating to Berlin. In some respects the American’s music bypasses the melodic classicalism of Detroit for a stripped-back European take on techno, though the mettlesome machine- funk of his raw style, and rough and ready prowess behind the decks, is never too far from the outer-regions of the US’ motorcity he calls home.

In the first week of September we're heading to the beautiful scenery of Tisno, Croatia, to celebrate the first edition of Dekmantel Selectors. In the run up to the festival, we've launched a new temporary podcast-series where we invite ten of our selectors from the festival to dig deep in their unique collections. The idea behind the mix is to create a Time Document, focusing on a specific period of time with the artist being free in choosing this period. This period could in fact entail anything: a certain decennia, the time he or she fell in love, The Cold War, November ’92 – March ’93, or the rise of Nigerian music. It’s up to the Selectors to choose and tell us a story based on their music collection.

Another Dutch local, Aroy Dee aka Steven Brunsmann, is responsible for what already is the sixth mix within the Selectors Podcast series. The mastermind behind M>O>S (which translates to Music About Cities) has a strong affinity with the legacy of music from cities like Detroit and Chicago. It might be his work in architecture, that enables him to deconstruct that legacy into timeless productions and superb DJ-sets. 

Timeless music is yet again a big part this Selectors Time Document Steven made for us. "It's a selection of tracks that made me make music myself. I went through my whole collection and found some records that really influenced my passion for producing. I tried to keep it a bit original, as it's very easy to play an hour of Mr. Fingers tunes of course. I am already a bit older, so all tracks within this mix are mostly over twenty years old. My vinyl-addiction became a thing when I started listening to mixtapes in the '80s, whilst trying to figure out what tracks were being played in the mixes."

Steven got inspired by some important people and records throughout his career. "If I have to pick people and records that influenced my taste in music the most, Ross 154’s ‘Until My Heart Stops’, a track from 1991, is definitely one of them. It was recorded by Jochem Peteri in 1991, but I saved it from the TDK cassette drop-outs and released it in 2004 on M>O>S. Also, I have to mention Marsel van der Wielen (head honcho of Delsin Records) too. He's indirectly part of this mix, as I played his label release of Area Forty One in here as well."
