Citrus Fever Dream is a true synergy between the Layering and Vibration Mastery of Emancipator, and the neo-soul/ chillhop instrumentalism of Cloudchord. The duo ended up getting psychedelic in Oregon one weekend, and Citrus fever Dream embodies those experiences they had.

This ep sums up to me what Cloudchord sounds like through the "Emancipator music filter." A lot of the core musical ideas are clearly from the Cloudchord neo-soul/ chillhop paradigm, but then Emancipator ran all these ideas through his "downtempo headnodic electronica layer prism," which is an area where I consider him a true master. - Cloudchord

Citrus Fever Dream is a tangy collection of songs soaked in lap steel guitar, flute, percussion, and exotic sounds. Cloudchord and I recorded most of this EP over a few days in Oregon, taking a laidback and open minded approach that is reflected in the music, and ultimately features our fortes of guitar and layered production. Twenty-Six timeless and dabbed-out instrumental vignettes exploring Lo-fi Jazz/Soul, minimal Hiphop, and abstract Beatwork all soaked in vintage palettes and woven into a seamless head-nodding flow.

Dab Records was created from the friendship of Doug Appling (better known as downtempo producer Emancipator and the creator of Loci Records) and Asher Fulero (session/touring keyboardist and multi-genre composer/producer). 

During some early-2016 idea sessions for new Emancipator music, the pair discovered a working flow in the studio that carried it’s own identity and decided to curate a new project around it. 

Over the course of the next four years between other albums and tours, Appling and Fulero spent countless hours in the studio together filling folder after folder with ideas and then patiently sculpting away, refining the vision and lovingly crafting a timeless piece of art that showcases some of the finest work from either.

Layers of vintage keyboards, jazzy samples, minimal beats and abstract synths get soaked in vinyl scratching and dirty atmospheres, all smoked and toked into a blissfully hypnotic masterpiece that is obsessively detail-oriented yet loosely off-the-cuff in captivating stoner perfection.
