This week on Ed & Friends has lots of lessons and laughter from improv comedy legend and founder of  Hoopla, Steve Roe!

Steve has made a name for himself teaching and performing improvised comedy. In 2006, he and his friends started meeting above a pub in Balham and eventually created Hoopla, which has since become a comedy community with weekly shows, its own festival and a platter of classes and courses that are training and showcasing comedians in the heart of London.

Steve gives Ed a potted history of improv and chats about making things up on the spot, breaking the rules and keeping a healthy disrespect for the art form. He also shares a soon to be award winning story about some Spanish tourists and a bookshop toilet.

Chris Gau, the co-writer and producer of hit Channel 5 sitcom Borderline (along with Michael Orton-Tolliver) joins Ed on an extraordinarily hot day where they talk it out, sweat it out and discuss the process of making a comedy about UK Border Control.

Episode 26: Chris the Sitcom Writer - ED & FRIENDS

Podcast Adventures is producing its first radio serial. Dead Drunk Detective is a supernatural ‘radio’ noir starring a zombie private detective, and we had the writer of the show in the studio to chat about it.

Brendan was backing up his computer when he pulled up an old script he had written a few years ago and from there, he wrote an entire series and sent it over to us at Podcast Adventures! And now the show will be coming to life in front of a live audience.

Episode 27: Brendan The Dead Drunk Writer

Dead Drunk Detective is launching this Monday and we happen to share a cast member with the smash West End and Edinburgh Fringe show Sh!t-Faced Shakespeare. They perform an entire Shakespeare play, but every night, one cast member is a babbling drunk. It’s why they call it Sh!t-Faced.

The talented Leanna Wigginton tells Ed about her acting training, her start with the company and the birth of “Horny Helena” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Ed & Friends takes a different tone this week as Ed talks to his friend and cousin Sgt. James Russell, and while they talk about life in the US Military, the subject inevitably turns to tomorrow’s Presidential election.

Ed asks how a soldier reacts to Presidential candidates that evoke the military in their campaigns, whether they are bending the facts to aid their campaign or disrespecting the families of fallen soldiers. Jim, a man that does not waste his words, gives Ed his views on Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and the duty of a soldier.

NOTE: Since the recording of this episode of Ed & Friends, the FBI have revealed that the further emails discovered on Anthony Weiner’s laptop are not pertinent to Hillary Clinton’s case and the FBI will be take no new action against Clinton.

Paul Hughes was once a radio producer for the Music Control evening show, but had always been a train-nut since he was a child. So he chased his dream and became a Train Conductor, and now he is an Operations Manager of one of the largest train stations in the country.

Ed and Paul talk about the beauties of train travel, the strange things that Train Conductors witness and the sometimes dangerous and sometimes noble duty of the train conductor.

This man loves trains.
