Only one listen to the crystal clear rapture in the sound of Bodhi shows the funk influenced take on dance music this young duo have to offer. Olly Howells and Luke Welsby started producing together 2 years ago but ever since they kept on capturing the right attention. Therefore it is no surprise that Exploited picked them up to release three uplifting, warm and modern dance tracks.

Over the past 12 months Bodhi have achieved a number two spot on XLR8R’s monthly ‘Most Downloaded’ charts, a number 1 spot on Hype Machine, featured on Mixmag as ‘Mix Of The Week’ and filmed an ‘Introducing’ session at the prestigious Red Bull Studios as well as notching up over two million listens on Soundcloud. From a small town in Normandy hails the beatsmith, DJ and Musique Large Records boss, Pierre Troel (a.k.a Fulgeance, Claude and one half of Souleance alongside Soulist).

Whereas Fulgeance’s tracks can sometimes be defined by a headier, more thrashy temperament, a different sonic undertaking is also explored by Troel when producing under his Claude moniker, illustrated by our track of today “That Jazz”. This bouncy-yet-smooth sound exemplifies house music’s jazzier (hence the apt song name), purple-tinged temperaments; a style frequently emanating from Berlin-based imprints such as Tartelet, Money $ex Records and Box aus Holz. It’s therefore not very surprising that the EP’s final track is a dreamy synth remix by Tartelet and Money $ex affiliate, Glenn Astro. Here’s hoping that more collaborations are underway.

Claude’s Whoop EP drops in full, both digitally and on vinyl, on 25th September.

"Rehearsal" is sustained by Klubbhusset's patented, bouncy 909 percussion, flipping a gospel-like sample that all well-educated hip-hop heads should recognize. Clever filtering and hat work serve to keep the track hustling without monotony. It's really a perfect main chop too; the vocals irresistibly soulful and catchy, with piano flutters and horn stabs from the sample accenting the experience. Though it's the first track on the release, "Rehearsal" really works best as a later night affair. Its bittersweet loop staying faithful until the end.
