NIGHTFALL ON THE LAKE, is an ambient take on rural soundscapes for solo guitar and piano.

With collaborations from Tom Adams, Trifon K, Mish Pharaon (Left of Manila), the piece is reminiscent of Virginia Astley’s 'From Gardens Where We Feel Secure' and Steve Roach’s ambient work.

The album is based around a field recording I made in Scotland during lockdown in April 2020

If possible, listen back with the auto loudness turned off. The piece gets quieter as it progresses as the birdlife falls asleep: the alga-rhythms don't like this and turn the volume up if you have normalisation active. If you'd like to drift off to sleep with the wildlife, turn off the automatic volume adjuster on your settings.

Exploring the philosophy of one mic, one take, I set up in my living room in Berlin in summer 2015 to record an album of improvisations and songs written & recorded on the spot. The aim was to capture the imperfections of the moment, the street noise and the happy accidents.

Find our home in Gansu beholden now to sand storm. See our eastern lights by a desert been seized, acacia trees form rip-tide feed. All green eco-coat scene, tourists thrive on nature hive – hold it back, under pressure it bleeds; camera click and snapshot sees heat. 

Old mill back in Tudor leaf, all silent down in the dell did live Old England, light drizzle, mist, see Puck spring forth from a Constable scene where I found a girl of the ancient realm, she believed in the earth, Oh how she built me up, made me see, flew too high I burnt my wings - freefall  

Play a picture, turn a stone, rise up to find the weight is gone. Turn to leave, sins in line, cross the wars until the time winter tests the young, caught in the dying days of sun, the girl I knew turns to see the ghost that forms the cast of me – though knowing a sound can bring a second pass.
