In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. Idle Cellars is back with another chiller killer for your Autumn revelry! This time around we’ve got another stellar mix from West Coast pioneer, Bay Area Rave legend & Cali breakbeat progenitor DJ SPUN! Responsible for breaking breaks in SF in the early 90s, punk rock bandleader in the early 80s, disco mastermind in the early 00’s - the man has been there, done that, whether via his label Rong Music, curating events at PS1 in NYC with the cream of club culture, humbly embodying some of the greatest DJ skills in the world, let alone the US (and let alone California!). 

His resume is far too long to list here, but he’s given us this fantastic mix for horizontal grooving that he’s titled “Idle Dub…Idle Chug”. Spun commented: “For fall and winter I usually switch to red wine…So this mix marked the start of the season and is a testament to the effect of a bottle of red!” Say no more squire! 

As usual, we’re in love with this journey through music, a gentle nudge from wonderful ambience through some late-night dubby funk on a slo-mo tip, keeping things musical and in outerspace!

He recently executive produced Strata Records – The Sound of Detroit, reimagined by Jazzanova, a project that highlights his expertise and dedication to preserving musical history and fostering education.
In this conversation, DJ Amir talks about his profound connection to Hip Hop and lets us in on his exciting upcoming projects and collaborations.
