i wrote this back in 2009 (i think!), but i came across the lyrics recently & couldn't find a recording of it anywhere! so here it is, live-on-my-iPad style. :D i know it's probably an unremarkable song, but it's also the most amazing kind of song to play, because apparently, it doesn't matter how long i go without singing it, i'll always mean - and feel - every single word of it. hope you dig it.  :)

hillary early (the steel player on this track), is one of those musicians that makes everything - & i mean everything! - sound better. we'd never played together in person (although he'd dome some over-dub studio work on a couple of tracks i wrote a few years back) prior to recording this at a rehearsal for a show we did back in march, but he somehow captured everything about this song & made it better. we re-did this in a super-cool way on BIOMWS, but i'll always dig this version. hope u dig, too.

so, this is a tricky song for me. lyrically/thematically it feels a little out of place on blame it on my wild soul, which as a whole is pretty intense/dramatic. on the other hand, it has so much to do w that same chapter of my life, which (in retrospect) had as much to do with desperation & self-discovery as it did with escapism, aimlessness, restlessness, etc. if i were just a bit more "lucky" (the way i think i meant it in the song), i would never have found the courage that i have right now, right here, from having done things the way they had to be done. i'm grateful. (&... lucky?! :D ) *** that said, its probably true that if paola hadn't specifically requested that this go on the record, it wouldn't have made the cut! :D hope u dig it :)
