Ambience 1

Trying out a riff in mixed 7/4 and 4/4. The bass uses Chris Squire-inspired dirty and clean tones mixed together, with a tiny splash of echo and reverb.

All Pro Tools, no amps, no mics, no amp sims. Just a bass, DI, and tweaking some racks.

Pardon the long silence after 0:50. Pro Tools didn't auto-truncate the silence afterwards. *shrug*

Riff Idea

A little Fripp/Eno inspired ambient track I put together for a philosophy class. All core sounds were generated by a Yamaha SY77 synthesizer; outboard processing by Pro Tools 8.0.5 and AIR/DigiRack plug-ins.

Simulated instruments: Eminent 310 organ/string synth with phaser (of course! :P), Moog Taurus, RMI Harmonic Synthesizer with flanging, and Minimoog through a Rockman with a screwy distortion bias and echo effects. Most tracks put through a modulated digital delay loop with times over 2 seconds; left and right channels have different times.

Phenomenology (or the Heavenly Music LLC)

A guitar player of 10 years (8 of which were any good, IMO), bass of 4 years, and some synth experience. My roots are firm in progressive and classic rock, but I was brought up in an alt rock/college rock town, so that is in my blood as well. I also love classic electronica artists, like Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, and Kraftwerk. I also self-engineer; with a Pro Tools 10 setup and no amp to speak of, I'd like to believe I'm pretty adept at piecing together a decent guitar sound on plugins alone. Hope you like.
