Big Spider's Back - Pffff

When EDM Trap music first started getting popular, I didn’t really like it that much, but after a while, I realized that there have been other genres of music that I didn't really like when I first heard them either.  I began hearing more and more Trap that I liked from the other DJs in my crew, so I started to open up to it more.  I eventually started digging deeper and discovered the more melodic, mellow, dark and soulful side of Trap which I was starting to feel a bit more.  Some people hate the chill shit, and like Trap that is more hood and rowdy, but I just wasn’t into it. I also tend to dislike most music that is in the mainstream, no matter what the genre.  In the beginning, I was only hearing popular Trap and it wasn’t really for me.  Not to mention all the Top 40 Pop songs that I already hated, being remixed to death.  I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you just assume that the shit you hear on the radio, in commercials, or with a million youtube view is the defining sound of the genre, then you are just being ignorant and judgmental, like I was.  Anyhow, here is my new mix with some of the Trap sounds that I like, as well as some other beats that aren’t quite Trap, but fit well in this mix.  As a closing statement, I have learned that it is best to refrain from saying you hate an entire genre of music unless you actually know more about it than what you merely hear on the surface.  You may not like a certain style within that genre, but if you dig a bit deeper and hunt for yourself, you may open your mind to something new and enjoyable.

This mix encapsulates a vibe I’ve been presenting in my live sets. Intricate, varied drum patterns, melodies and harmonies playing off of each other, quick changes and surprises, and enough sub-bass to knock your kitten’s mittens off. This is a mixture of the deeper dubstep, garage, and trap I tend to play during opening sets, the wonky house and techno I go into late night, and a few of the chiller peak time tunes that still work well outside the club. Don’t get me wrong, this mix would be a dancefloor killer, but it still plays well while you’re walking around with a good pair of headphones.

<b>Edgewoode</b> is a new music project from Anthony Rotella, a producer and DJ well-known for his longtime contributions to both drum & bass and dubstep under his Mayhem moniker. As one of the longest-running American bass music artists, Anthony has a long list of achievements as Mayhem. He’s
released music on marquee labels like Ram Records and Human Imprint, played a crucial role in establishing forward-thinking music scenes in his native Atlanta and across the United States, and
collaborated with highly respected artists like Noisia and Phace.

Anthony has established Edgewoode as an outlet for his music that isn’t defined by the aggressive, dancefloor-oriented mindset he’s known for as Mayhem. This is the debut of his Edgewoode persona and Deceast is looking forward to helping him diversify as an artist through this new project.
