Dream Techno

This week's GVR episode comes from a talented young artist from the North of Portugal: Nørbak. 

His devotion to music production came early on in his life, a craft honed in through countless hours in the studio, day after day. His soundscapes vary from ambient to experimental, but always focused on techno. His first releases came in 2016 on imprints such as Circular Limited and Illegal Alien, followed by globally-recognized labels the likes of PoleGroup, Warm Up Recordings, Semantica, Modularz, Affin, Float Records and more. Through this journey, his sound has developed further and further, now focusing on the mental and physical side of Techno, where he finds himself most at home.

This year Nørbak joined the Portuguese independent collective and label Hayes as an active member, working together with his label colleagues to push a new wave of contemporary Techno. 

Altogether, his work has been supported by some of the most respected artists in the scene like Oscar Mulero, Jonas Kopp, Svreca, Dasha Rush and more, a testament to the maturity of his productions and DJ performances.

Deano is a fast rising artist from Cape Town, a place where the scene is growing day-by-day thanks to a passionate group of people who are putting a lot of effort into giving South Africa a place within the global Techno community. Madrid’s @rolldann has a mind of his own. Since taking up production in the late noughties, the vivid style of his work has become increasingly unique. With his signature dark polyrhythmic sequences, he caught the eye of Slam who quickly signed him to their SOMA imprint.

In September, Roll Dann appeared on our label’s inaugural release alongside Gareth Wild, supplying a stripped back, darkside remix of Gareth’s ‘Live Wire’.

For our next DETECT, he brought that same energy for an exclusive mix.

Oxygeno - When Everything Ends

Fabrizio Lapiana continues to offer up deep musical escape from these troubling times with another expertly crafted techno EP, Cantamen, on his own Attic Music label. It features four of his own original cuts and builds on the success of his latest release, Collective Chaos, back in March. 

Sleek opener 'Demons' is a mind melting and widescreen deep techno groove. Groaning synths creep across the face of the track as all manner of earthy and organic motifs drift by, as if you're racing through an underground network of caves. It's music for the mind as well as the body, and the hugely atmospheric 'Cantamen' is just the same - fizzing synth details and alien life forms fill the airwave with tension as the smooth and supple kick drums pound away down below. 

The hypnotic masterclass continues on 'Kura' with rattling snares and harder hitting drums making you move your body before coarse claps and a majestic arpeggiated synth hook repeats up top and takes you to another level of rapture. Last of all is the fantastic ‘Back Home', which has a skeletal electro groove run through with late night sci-fi pads. Its vast sense of cosmic infinity leaves you feeling floating adrift amongst the stars. 

These are four evocative and cinematic techno tracks that take you into another dimension.

Thomas Bruning aka Shrouds is a DJ/Producer hailing from Amsterdam. 
Getting his inspiration from the occult, he always tries to tell the story of corrupted politics, oppressed people, destructive religion, genocide and wars against humanity. 
With several releases on cassette label Strange Therapy based in his hometown, Shrouds endeavours to blur the boundaries between industrial and techno.
