The self-released track “icu” by AXT was produced and mixed in Prague and Vienna from May to August 2024, under the influence of overwhelming emotions brought on by a blend of loneliness, contemplation of unexpected life paths changes, and falling into the abyss of distance and separation from something and someone I felt deeply connected to. “icu” features voice samples from “Chanel” by Frank Ocean. Big up Frank, but I believe there are more sides than just two!

The artwork was created by Ukrainian-Czech visual artist @dreamlogue_ in Prague, during his ongoing exploration of the possibilities within randomness and chaos.

Amongst all the Italian encounters Bamboo Shows made over the years, here come Matteo Coffetti and Kakofonico under their moniker Ninja Exotic Machine. The Turinese duo plays a key role in the development of sunitty, both with their different musical projects and the vanguard leftfield bass label Pho Bho Records they run with Tundra & Federico Spini.

With their ‘Mana Verde’ LP, Matteo Coffetti and Kakofonico recount the fanciful ‘legend of the Mana Verde Forest’, thus depicting their porous vision of electronic music. In this enchanted lands, wacky improvisation meets the syncopated rhythms of Riddim and Dancehall, post internet weirdeleria echoes with stretched vocals, and deep bass-lines bring the whole party to a contagious dancing mania.

‘Mana Verde’ is the final installment of the ‘vai a casa, sei ubriaco!’ series, extending this sunitty panorama from psychedelic ambient and folkloric noise to leftfield bass and post internet dancefloor materials. To be further explored in the dedicated mini-zine.

London-based producer Slacker lands on Markham Road Records with an exercise in both sample juggling and unrelenting pressure. Got Me Down's trio of waveforms spin the same vocal chop to produce some heavy, club-ready sounds. These three tracks lie on the pacier side of the BPM range, instructing a late-night application of their rhythms.

Leading out with the title track Got Me Down, Slacker pounds the subs harder than a Nona making pesto. Fitting somewhere between hard tech and dubstep, Got Me Down is a roller coaster of ups and downs (but mostly ups) that aims to leave dancers rather eager to stay on the floor.

The EP continues with a call and repeat called You Don’t Care. Developing over various percussive lines and bass swells, the track showcases Slacker’s expertise in sorting, pacing, and delivering THE drums. Just like Pooh Beatz, "He Like The HI Hat God Kinda."

The track also gets a spin courtesy of Europe’s other mega metropolis. Paris-based De Grandi morphs You Don’t Care into a step-friendly bass tech track in his latest remixing endeavor. In this remix, two heavy driving sections are laced together by a rather introverted bridge to allow dancers to regain their footing. As per the rest of the project, the remix maintains elements of the original vocal chop while introducing new percussive and rhythmical accoutrement.

Sticking a dirty thumb in the eye of fate, our third collaboration sees our marrow deep family malarky turn official as Pace Yourself teams up with YS’s own imprint Erf Records for a split release. 

Burn is the second YS album and written as a direct follow-up album to Brutal Flowers. If their first album was an exercise in the incremental, a construction of poise and patience, Burn, should be taken way the fuck at it’s word: it quite literally finds catharsis in twisted reverse. Birthed out the malignant kick found in deconstruction and chaos. The hit is radical and instant: a new way for the world to go up in smoke. Cauterising infected suburban minds world over. 

Dunno quite what YS have been ingesting of late but this massively twisted LP touches on a host of gloriously fucked totemic underground sources while not sounding much like any of them. Struggling to conceal their tongues in their cheeks there’s an air of paranoia and proto-conspiracy theory. Leaving you feeling like you’ve stepped into a New World Order.  

Burn like other works by YS, is its own ritual beast. ‘Moth’, a track which has been knocking about the underground deejai circuit for many moons, is a real raw slice of stoner erotica that reeks of obsession and unrequited desire. Elsewhere, on tracks like ‘Switch’, ‘Trying’ and ‘Drift’ the throughline from Brutal Flowers can be heard. Underneath the driving heavy gravity the trademark emotional intimacies of YS linger: eternal recurrence, ghosts of static and shortwave, worn memories of the playful and painful sort. The brief moments where flashes of orchestral ambience get out from underneath the swagger are so pure, personal and unguarded that for a moment they leave you completely lonesome.

Widely regarded as one of the most uncompromising works in experimental noise, Kevin Drumm’s Sheer Hellish Miasma is once again available on vinyl. First released on CD in 2002 on the original Mego label, the album remains a landmark in extreme electronic sound and is an essential and ferocious document of Drumm at his most inventive.

The history of Drumm’s Sheer Hellish Miasma is one of resilience to the twists of underground trends that have come and gone since its initial release. Using guitar, tape manipulation, microphones, pedals, analog synthesizers, and subtle computer processing, Sheer Hellish Miasma is an overwhelming experience: a sonic onslaught of storming feedback, fractured textures and  an unrelenting energy. At once brutal and meticulously composed, the album offers a singular vision at the outermost edges of sound art.

For seasoned noise veterans, Sheer Hellish Miasma offers a bracing soundscape filled with exquisitely abrasive textures and more than enough hidden detail to warrant repeated listening – a distinct voice in the increasingly same-sounding world of abstract electronic noise. For everyone else, Drumm’s journey through the noisy underworld is likely to inspire fear or, in an optimistic case, fearful admiration.
