HNTR is the darker alias of Canadian music producer Hunter Siegel who’s best known for his success as a crossover dance artist. His debut single “Waiting Up,” released as a white-label in 2013 received international support and quickly caught the ear of a number of tastemaker labels, like Steve Angello's Size Records where HNTR went on to collaborate with house music legend Todd Terry.

The emergence of HNTR gave an outlet for the more underground sonics that have been influencing Siegel’s vocal-driven radio songs since the beginning. The debut EP I Might Forgive, I Don’t Forget released independently on his label No Neon was met with early support within the techno and underground dance communities, and caught the ear of dance music legend Deadmau5 who gave the nod to HNTR for a pair of shows in 2020. 

A curatorial force in the Toronto dance music scene, HNTR has been throwing sold-out shows in the city for more than five years with his brand No Neon. No Neon Records was launched in 2019 as an expansion of HNTR’s dedication, using the platform for releasing his own records alongside music from emerging and established artists alike. No Neon has spotlighted rising artists before they break, having booked Rezz for her first show in Toronto and similarly booked acts like Joyryde, Matroda, and Drezo early on in their careers.

Together with his label No Neon, HNTR will continue to push the limits and lead the cutting edge of modern house and techno.

Having previously opened for deadmau5, releasing on mau5trap is a natural next step for the buzzing talent. 

The new single follows the success of HNTR’s second EP Mind Games, which released on his own label, No Neon in March. The four-track EP showcases HNTR’s dynamic ability to bridge techno with progressive house, and showcases No Neon as a tastemaker within the underground realm.

Defined by the mission to "change the way people perceive electronic music" this masked artist has begun to accomplish that goal with each passing release that has landed on labels like mau5trap, Jaw Dropping Records, and Jannowitz Records.

Now, this mysterious techno producer is riding a wave of successful releases such as "Occult" and the Fall Free EP to even greater heights this summer while also working to bring Abyss Constellations to live with Mac & Gizmo. Between the onslaught of insane underground grooves, livestream appearances on Insomniac TV, and stunning performances in the face of the pandemic that included a magical set inside the Neon Museum in Las Vegas - it seems as if nothing is stopping SVNF8 on their rise to greatness.

To help further prove that point, SVNF8 swung by to celebrate the summer in their own unique way with a mix that is overflowing with sensational soundscapes to explore. Speaking about the mix itself, they said "being it's the first summer following 2020; there is still so much beauty among the darkness," and after embarking on the 30-minute journey ourselves... we couldn't agree more. While Hunter Siegel has carved out space in the scene with his releases since 2013, the recent shift for the Canadian artist that embraces darker techno soundscapes as HNTR has allowed him further explore his sonic reaches. The past few years have seen him release a flurry of tracks under the alias on his imprint, No Neon - and after gaining praise from deadmau5 in 2020 it was only a matter of time before he appeared on mau5trap.

That moment arrived back in May of this year when HNTR teamed up with Elliot Moss to release "Shadows in the Dark" on the renowned label. This melodic house and techno track quickly stole the hearts of those who listened and left them craving for more from the mind of this talented producer. Now, that time has come as he's returned to mau5trap for his latest track, "Searching for Self." This time around, HNTR has looked to Tribe Alexander to provide the hypnotizing vocals as he leads listeners on a journey into the techno realm with a touch of progressive influence along the way.

"My buddy Tribe sent me about 12 vocal demos, this was the second one I listened to and I was instantly hooked by the entrancing repetition of the vocal," HNTR said about the track. "It grabbed me and spoke to me instantly, I wanted to try to use that same feeling in the production to help amplify that feeling of searching for something."

Celebrating the release of "Searching for Self," HNTR spun up a mix to celebrate the beginning of the fall season and help usher in the cooler months. This hour and a half ride is filled with a plethora of his originals and curated selections from the likes of Charles D, Pryda, Avision, Maceo Plex, Victor Ruiz, and more to further emphasize the gray skies and rainy nights ahead.
