For this weeks guest podcast we’ve invited an artist, who not so long ago, started his debut year under a new alias and man, what a year has it been. His first release under his new sobriquet, Jon Charnis, was at the beginning of 2013  when he took part in a Various Artist compilation on Âme & Dixon’s infamous Innervisions. His track “Prophecy”, roamed dancefloors and trembled club walls all over the globe due to the immense support coming from Dixon.

"Poolside Pearlers" includes six sun-spun productions best served poolside. Proto Exotica’s maiden compilation dips into shimmery jazz, acid-tinged breaks, low-slung downtempo, and the sweet spot between Balearic and ambient.

Each track is an asynchronous contribution from friends across the Asia-Pacific region: Mori Ra, Sonder Plains, Tucan Discos, Bongomann, Max Hammur, and Gold Suite. By taking away the barriers of location and time, self-paced collaboration let each sound breathe in, breathe out and find its natural place.

All Bandcamp and record sale profits will be shared equally among the artists.

Wir freuen uns riesig euch heute unsere Nummer 16 zu präsentieren. Und das von niemandem geringeres als Soul Button, den wir am 8. April im Bullitt Club, München zu Gast haben werden.

Interview:

How and when did you get into electronic music?

I think I was around 17 when I listened to Kraftwerk for the first time and I was completely shocked with the sounds they were producing. I then started to do some research and after some months, discovered that Roland was making one of its first drum machines. I convinced my father to buy one and started to make music. Over the first year, I was only programming drums... no bass lines, no synths, only drums. Keep in mind there were no computers back then either. I then bought a sampler AKAI 900 months later and I produced my first techno vinyl at the age of 19. That was almost 20 years ago now. :)

Which musical moments have been especially memorable to you? 

For sure when I was very young, around 18, during the periods when I started creating my first techno live sets for illegal rave parties. I’m talking about free parties, it meant I was playing in front of 2-3 thousand people sometimes. Nice memories … 

Which plans do you have for the future with Steyoyoke?

Personally my goal is to release an album, but I don't think this will happen for a while, because I don’t have so much free time to stay in studio at the moment. Between my label office work and gigs, it keeps me very busy, but an album is definitely on the cards for the future. 

In regards to Steyoyoke, there aren't any really big plans. We just want to keep releasing good quality music with strong artistic concepts. All the artists are becoming more and more mature and the sound is evolving more and more, in its own unique way. I guess this is the key and my biggest goal.

If you could choose to play at any venue in the world, which place would it be?

Definitely at Warung in Brazil. I think it’s one of the most beautiful clubs and somewhere where I would love to play.
